RUSSEL DAVID LAUGHLIN
April 11, 1935 ~ May 30, 2018
Russel David Laughlin, 83, passed away at the Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver, WA on May 30, 2018 from a long struggle with Sjogren Syndrome (auto immune).
He was born on April 11, 1935 to Lorin and Hildur Laughlin at home in Nevis, MN.
Russ moved to Oregon in 1953. He served in the US Army from 1955-1958.
Russ retired after 20 years from the Safeway Milk plant in Clackamas, OR. He enjoyed the many years he attended the retiree lunches at Elmer's Restaurant in Clackamas.
Russ and his wife Denice moved from Oregon to Battle Ground, WA to a home built to ease him into old age.
Russel is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Denice Fosnot-Graver; ex-wife, Charlene Hull; 5 children from his first marriage: 4 sons, Dennis, Scott, Kelly and Jamie and 1 daughter, Marilyn; 8 grandchildren, Desmond Wiles, Allen Manley, Amanda Carney, Cassandra Laughlin, Ashley Laughlin-Cheatham, Brian Laughlin, Patrick Laughlin and Sarah Laughlin; and 10 great-grandchildren, Emily Wiles, Braydon Cheatham, Brody Cheatham, Bailey Cheatham, Bella Cheatham, Alisha Laughlin, Jack Laughlin, T K Carney, Maeve Laughlin and Marceline Taylor.
His children loved and respected him very much, and they all have fond memories of him. His nieces and nephews remember him as a gentle giant (over 6 feet, 5 inches tall) wearing blue overalls, singing and teaching them how to drive the riding lawn mower at the Clackamas, OR home.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Hildur Laughlin; brother, Gerald "Jerry" Laughlin; and his sister, Ruth Ruff.
There will be a service in memory of Russel at Layne's Funeral Home in Battle Ground, WA on Sat., July 14, 2018 at 1:30 p.m., followed by a private interment at Willamette National Cemetery.
