RICHARD NEIL HANSEN
October 17, 1935 ~ April 27, 2013

"Sailor rest your oars, we have the watch."

Richard Neil Hansen, 77, passed away on April 27, 2013 in the company of his family.
Richard's unwavering strength and kind spirit despite a long battle with cancer continue to serve as inspiration for those who knew him.
Richard was born in Staton, OR on October 17, 1935.
He spent 22 years of his adult life in the U.S. Navy. Of those years, the time Richard spent serving on submarines were the ones he cherished most. His final submarine tour was aboard the USS Blueback; the vessel stationed at OMSI in Portland, OR.
Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maureen Hansen; his sister, Carol Morrison; his son, Rich Hansen; his daughter, Dawn King; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A grave-side service for Richard will be held on Sat., May 11, 2013 at the Vancouver Barracks Post Cemetery at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in Richard's memory to the Ray Hickey Hospice House.

Love you grandpa. I will miss you so much. You were everything to me. I'm glad my children were able to grow up knowing you. I wish I would of been able to be there with you as you passed. While I did not have the honor of knowing or serving with Dick, he is a navy and submarine brother. Thank you for your service to your country sir, and now sailor you have the eternal fair winds and following seas you have richly earned. Sorry to hear about Dicks passing. I was wondering why he was not showing up at the mail box for the past several days. I would stop what I was doing to chat with him and wife when she was along over the years.

We will all miss Richard very much. Richard and Maureen were our neighbors for the last 15 years. He was always ready to lend a hand when needed and was so friendly to everyone. Seeing them walking Gizmo around the neighborhood together, looking so happy and in love after all those years made me smile.
