NONA M. (HANSON) DETERT SCHAAL
January 3, 1927 ~ April 21, 2018

Nona (Hanson) Detert Schaal passed on April 21, 2018 in Vancouver, WA. Her parents were Otto and Selma Hanson of Mt. Vernon, WA (both deceased). Her only sibling, twin brother, Norval Hanson of Mt. Vernon, WA, passed on July 8, 2008.
Nona worked for Dr. Rasmussen for 6 years until he passed away. She was a full charge bookkeeper at Bethany Home for the Aged in Everett, WA for 16 years; then went to Warm Beach Health Care Center where she worked as an Asst. Social Service employee and retired there in 1988.
Nona married Fred Detert on Feb. 3, 1989. He unexpectedly passed on March 1, 1990.
Nona married Melvin Schaal on Oct. 6, 2001. She then moved to Vancouver, WA.
Nona and Mel were Arizona "snow birds" living in Apache Junction, AZ (near Mesa) in their 40 ft. motor home. They enjoyed this life style and traveled to many states. They also liked staying in the motor home at Long Beach, WA ~ appreciating the fellowship of other friends. Mel passed on May 29, 2016.
Nona's biggest joy was flower gardening. Following a stroke and no longer able to garden, she continued planting large flower pots as long as she could. Children brightened her days. She also enjoyed it when friends brought their small dogs and kittens for her to hold.
Nona is survived by Mel's five children and his many grand and great-grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service for Nona at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, WA on Sat., June 23, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Following the service, there will be a luncheon in the Hospitality Room.
