MAURICE LYONS Obituary

M. FRANK LYONS
January 2, 1936 ~ February 15, 2013
"A strong, proud man with an independent
spirit who shall be missed dearly by those
who knew and loved him."

Maurice Frank Lyons passed away on Feb. 15, 2013 at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, WA. Frank, son of Justin J. Lyons and Ledra Lyons, was born in Oakland, CA on Jan. 2, 1936. He was raised in Vancouver, WA where he attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School and graduated from Central Catholic High School.
Frank went on to serve in the Air Force Reserve of the Oregon Air National Guard before beginning a life long career with the U-Haul International Corporation.
Starting as a Fieldman for U-Haul Company in 1959 and advancing to become the President of Warrington Equipment Manufacturing Company in Willow Grove, PA which oversaw the manufacturing of U-Haul trucks and trailers. Beginning with 35 employees, over the course of 5 years, Frank increased the production and volume at the plant brought the employee level to over 170 people and was widely known and respected for his leadership and the ability to get things done. Frank was associated with the U-Haul Company for 53 of the company's 67 years of existence and was proud to serve the last 10 years as a Director on the Board of Amerco, parent company of U-Haul International.
Frank returned to Washington State where he served as the President of Evergreen Realty, Inc. from 1991 to 2000.
Upon retiring, he took great pleasure in re-connecting with his family and friends. An accomplished fisherman and sportsman he always returned from trips over the years with great stories of adventures with his friends. He was a skilled mechanic, enjoying the challenge and satisfaction of fixing things himself rather than leaving it to someone else. A natural artist and craftsman, Frank spent many enjoyable hours creating beautiful wood carvings. He enjoyed trips to the coast, a good western, liar's poker and lunch with family and friends.
Frank is survived by his loving partner of 15 years, Shirley Sanders; his son, Steven Lyons; daughter, Carin Lyons; brother, Michael Lyons; sisters, Sally Ann Lyons, Patricia Withee and Kathryn Ackerman; his brother-in-law and long time dear friend, William "Hap" Carty; as well as many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Helen Carty Lyons.
A graveside service will be held at St. Mary's Church in Ridgefield, WA at 10:00 a.m. on Fri., Feb. 22, 2013, followed by a reception at the church.
