MARY LOUISE STEVENS AMMONS
Louise Ammons, a longtime Vancouver, WA, resident, has passed away after a long illness. She was 93.
Louise was born in 1927 in Etowah, NC, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the eldest of five children of the Rev. L.C. Stevens, a circuit-riding Methodist preacher, and Julia Nichols Stevens, a teacher and homemaker. Her growing-up years during the Depression were reminiscent of “The Waltons” and spawned many heart-warming stories of the rambunctious family, which included brothers, Richard, Francis and Glenn, and sister, Vangie.
Louise was a brilliant student and was valedictorian of the old Vancouver High School in 1944. She was recruited to work at the FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C., as part of the homefront effort during World War II. Later she returned to Asheville and began nursing school. She met a dashing young man, Edgar, whom she married. He was the love of her life and she never remarried after he passed away in 1984.
Louise was a loving and gifted homemaker in North Carolina, Delaware and, since 1963, Orchards, WA. She reared three children, David, now living in Olympia, WA, Marilyn, Kelso, WA, and Shirley (Dennis), Orchards. She was a special grandma to Jennifer of Tacoma, Jonathan of Olympia, Paul of North Bend, WA, and Karin of Union Gap, OR; and great-grandma to Katelyn. She is survived by her brother, Richard, in Hendersonville, NC, and by numerous nephews, nieces and in-laws in Clark County and back east.
Louise was a lifelong devout Christian and formerly was a lay pastor and loved teaching and attending Sunday school and Bible studies, and leading worship. Gospel music was always on her lips and prayers and daily Scripture readings were dear to her. She was known for her kindness, piety and modesty. Louise loved church work, most recently for Fourth Plain Church of the Nazarene.
Louise loved travels to the Oregon Coast, Christmases in Olympia and car trips with Shirley around the Northwest, to Israel, and visiting family back east.
The family would like to thank Shirley for her steadfast care of mom so she could live independently until nearly the end. Her husband, Dennis, was a big help. Barbara was a wonderful homecare worker and numerous health care and hospice personnel and the staff at Fairgate Assisted Living in Camas were very good.
A family graveside committal service is planned at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Louise will be missed by her family and many friends, but her legacy will live on.

I am so sorry to hear that your Mom is gone from the earth. I remember her fondly, always so happy to see her at Burton. Even though I haven't seen her for years, I have thought of her often,
There is no doubt that we will see each other again in heaven. May God send his love and comfort to you all. Love.....

Louise was a wonderful lady. I'm blessed to have known her ! She was always ready to give a big hug and an "I love you" whenever we saw each other at church. Louise always sent cards to people on their special days. She was a joy to have at our Ladies retreats and she loved attending them. I have a lot of good memories of Louise that I will always cherish. I know I will see her again when The Lord calls me home❤. My condolences to Shirley and the family.
