MARY C. (COULTER) KIER
February 2, 1927 ~ October 27, 2015
Mary C. (Coulter) Kier, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on October 27, 2015, in Vancouver, WA. Mary was born February 2, 1927, to parents Leo and Jean Coulter in Centralia, WA. The following year, the family moved to Port Angeles, WA, where Mary graduated from high school in 1945.
College followed at Washington State University and Central Washington State College, where Mary graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and met her husband-to-be, Newt Kier. The couple married in 1952, and settled down in Camas first, then Battle Ground, where Mary was a devoted housewife and Mother to her three girls.
Mary remained in Battle Ground for 58 years, and was a longtime member of the Battle Ground United Methodist Church. She had a generous nature and volunteered many hours to the Church, the American Red Cross, League of Women Voters, and other nonprofit agencies.
Mary enjoyed classic music, reading, genealogy, traveling, and birding. She cherished spending time with her daughters, Annie Kier-Vander Stoep of Omak, Kay Kier-Haggenjos of Amboy, and Lynn Kier Nye of Seattle, and their spouses; her grandchildren, Erin Vander Stoep, Leah Vander Stoep, Jessalyn Haggenjos, Shawna Haggenjos, Matt Kier, and Holly Haggenjos; and great-grandson, Solomon Massey, all of whom will dearly miss her.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Martha Newberry.
Mary's family will hold a Celebration of her Life on Saturday, November 7, 2015, from 4:00-5:00 p.m., at the Battle Ground United Methodist Church. Bring your memories and photos to share with others. Refreshments will be served.
