Margie Hoffman Obituary

MARGIE GENE "GENIE" HOFFMAN
November 7, 1937 ~ April 4, 2018

After many years battling cancer, Genie passed away in the company of her family at the Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver, WA. She grew up in Marysville, WA and graduated from Marysville High School.
Genie attended Washington State University where she met her future husband Walter Frederick "Fred" Hoffman Jr. After getting married, Genie and Fred made their home in Vancouver, WA where they raised their three children, and owned and operated Orchards Hardware and Lumber until selling the business in 1979.
Genie then fulfilled a life-long goal of completing her college education and attended Clark College and Portland State University receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music.
Genie started a new career as a piano teacher and was also very active with the Clark County Music Teacher's Association serving in several leadership positions. At the same time, Genie started a new business - Business Services by MGH - providing business services to small business in the Vancouver area. Fred joined Genie's business providing tax preparation services to their clients.
Genie is survived by her husband of 62 years, Fred; her children, Mark, Susan and Jane; and her grandchildren, Matthew, Jasper, Fynn, Sten and Maria.
Genie asked that no services be held.
If you would like to donate in her honor, please consider organizations devoted to cancer research, or to local music and/or arts programs. Genie's family also suggests donations to the Ray Hickey Hospice House whose staff ensured Genie's last days were comfortable and peaceful.

Genie and I met while we were working at Alcoa in the 1960's. We lived near each other twice, first near 45th and Columbia then later near Green Meadows. We both graduated from Portland State in the 1980's. We occasionally met for lunch until a couple of years ago. I will miss her sense of humor and her laugh. My condolences to Fred and her family.
