LORRAINE "LORI" PEARL JONES
September 19, 1925 ~ April 4, 2018
Lorraine "Lori" Pearl Jones was born to Anders and Marguerite Nelson in Kearney, Nebraska, September 19, 1925 and passed away on April 4, 2018. She was survived by her brother, Eugene Nelson of Shelton, Washington; step-sisters, Miriam Hall of Portland, Oregon and Harriet Mercer of Springfield, Missouri; son, Craig Jones of Randle, Washington; daughter, Carol Slater of Portland, Oregon; as well as four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Lori graduated from Kearney High School in 1944 and then as a LPN from the Augustana School of Nursing in Chicago, where she was immediately employed as an in-home caregiver for new-born babies. During a visit to see her parents, recently moved to Vancouver, WA, Lori met Thomas Jones, a native-born Vancouverite, whom she married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on August 7, 1948. The couple remained devoted to each other for nearly seventy years of marriage.
During that time Lori and Tom raised son Craig and daughter Carol in Vancouver. Lori worked at Wolff's auto supply and as a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital before she hired on as a girls' counselor for the Washington State School for the Deaf, from which she retired after fourteen years in 1979. She and her husband then moved to the Shelter Bay community in La Connor, Washington. Lori enjoyed thirty years of exploring the Puget Sound aboard their 38 foot cruiser during the summers and snow-birding rest of the year in Indio, California.
Lori was known as a generous and empathetic friend to many and lovable to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, at the Columbia Presbyterian Church, 8715 St Helens Ave., Vancouver, WA 98664.
