Leland Liston Obituary

LELAND "LEE" LISTON
September 29, 1936 ~ September 12, 2013
"He had made a commitment early in life
that he would help someone who needed it everyday and he never quit trying to do so."

Lee died Thursday of a heart attack on his evening walk. He was born in Sturgis, SD and was a Clark County resident of seventy years. He graduated from Evergreen High School and Clark College before joining the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed on Taiwan; a cryptic clearance photographer.
Lee worked at Boise Cascade after his enlistment was up and retired from there to become owner and operator of Perma-Curbs of Vancouver with a subsidiary crew in Alaska for some years. Later, he also owned Woodland Concrete, Lumberjack Pizza, HI-Energy Coal and Perc-Test Co., and he got his license and became a realtor part time with Sundin Realty.
Lee served as President of the SWWA Contractors, and was a charter member and President of the LaCenter Lions; a sponsor of Little League teams, the Voice of Wildcats for many years announcing the LaCenter sports events. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and in 1997 he became an Ombudsman, visiting many of the county establishments, with his harmonica in hand, for sixteen years.
He had great faith and optimism always,
and his early dreams of building a log house
and a sailboat were realized.
Lee is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Jeanine; daughters, Mikkail Forst of LaCenter, Kerrie McNally of Skamokaman, Rose Smith of LaCenter and Lynne Krause of Tacoma; son, Joe Liston of Gresham, OR; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and brother, Richard Liston of Vancouver. All much loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son and two infant daughters.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 12:00 noon at St. Mary of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Ridgefield, WA. Burial with military honors in St. Mary of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery, Ridgefield.
Memorial donations may be sent to: Seton Catholic College Preparatory High School in Vancouver, WA, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Parkinson Research Foundation.
Please sign his guestbook at: www.columbian.com/obits.

Memories and Condolences
for Leland Liston

Not sure what to say?

My most fond memory of Lee was how his eyes would crinkle almost closed because he would laugh so hard. I have loved this all my life. My sisters and I extend our deepest sympathy, and want you to know how glad we are to have been able to be re connected lately.

October 1, 2013

My memories of Lee & his family, were early on at Alvin & Georgina's. Missed the later years except for occasional times seeing Mikkail. My love to your wonderful & loving family.

You were my role model, my friend and my father. I couldn't have had a better man as a dad than you.

It has been difficult watching what Parkinson's did to you over these past few years. It stole away your optimism, your confidence, your strength...your mind. I despise it for that. I love you dad, and my kids, wife and especially me miss you terribly. I always will. I still can't believe you aren't there, answering my phone calls with a "Hey there, young son"..

I love you and I miss you.

When I was little ,whenever we went to their house, it was so big, i would go in search of him sometimes , just to know he was there , tinkering around with something. I take comfort in that, i will see him again someday, go on a little search up in heaven.. miss you grandpa
