JOYE GRACE BICKNELL SOMERS
June 23, 1939 ~ October 8, 2012
Joye Grace Bicknell Somers, 73, died on Oct. 8, 2012. She is the loving arms of her childhood sweetheart now. A song told us so. Joye and Sid.......YOU are the champions! Joye was born in Vancouver, WA to Myrtle and Roy Bicknell. She lived in Vancouver her entire life and acquired many close friends, most of whom she kept in touch with since childhood.
Joye was a very loving, giving and caring person.
She would offer to help anyone who needed it.
Her usual way to end a phone call was ~
"Call me if you need anything."
Joye loved to cook and bake. Family and friends would frequently gather at her and Sids home, "The Eagles Nest". Everyone would crowd around the dining room table, except Joye. She would be in the kitchen, within view of all of the activity, cooking and dishing up comfort food to all who walked in the door. Joye especially loved cooking for her husband, Sid. She would often say "It's a pleasure to cook for someone who truly appreciates and enjoys it". She also loved politics and talk radio. She would never hesitate to tell you just what she thought of any political issue or candidate. We will miss her blunt opinions this election!
Joye will be missed deeply by her family, but also her close and caring friends, both old and new. And of course her beloved pets, Butch, Roxie, Fluffy Butt and Ugh.
A special thank you to her loyal friends, Sue Mccuen and Marilyn Boteilho for always being there for Joye.
Joye is survived by her children, Lynn (Rick), Sid Jr. (Christine), Barbara Molloy (Robert); her adored grandchildren, Katie, Kyle, Sydnee, Austin, Hunter and Sheldon; and also numerous nieces, nephews, and the many friends of her children, and children of her friends that called her "mom".
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Bicknell Rogen; granddaughter, Desiree Somers; and her loving husband of 48 years, Sidney Somers Sr.
Please join the family in saying goodbye to Joye at 3:00 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 18th, 2012, at Mt. Zion La Center Cemetery in La Center, WA.
