JOY GAYLE ALLEN
January 14, 1934 ~ May 4, 2017
Joy Gayle Allen, 83, of Vancouver, WA, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2017 at Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital surrounded by her husband Lon Allen and four daughters. Gayle, as she preferred to be called, was born Jan. 14, 1934 in Roosevelt, OK to Howard and Virgie Wallis. The family moved to Oregon where she met her husband, Lon, while attending school in Sandy, OR.
Gayle loved children and for 26 years, owned and taught at Learning Tree Preschool and Daycare which she ran from her home. She touched the lives of many children and the families in her community of Hazel Dell.
Gayle had a strong Christian faith and love of God and was an active member of the Cascade Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon on two occasions.
Her greatest gift is the love she has given to her family. We will miss her strong presence and guidance
but will carry on knowing that her love is within us all.
Gayle is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lon Allen; daughters, Verita Smith, Chrystal Wiese, Lonnie Thompson and Malea Goff; and her brother, James Wallis. She was especially proud of her 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and was hoping to be here to greet the 13th due in July. She was also considered great-grandma and great-great-grandma to her extended family.
A memorial service will be held on Sat., June 17th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Cascade Presbyterian Church, 9503 NE 86th St., Vancouver, WA 98662.
