JAY CHRISTOPHER WALLACE
August 16, 1956 ~ September 13, 2012

Jay Christopher Wallace died September 13, 2012 at his home in Vancouver. He was 56. Family and friends are deeply saddened by the loss of their fun-loving friend.
Jay was born August 16, 1956, in Portland, to Alice Joan Wallace and the late Warner Eldon Wallace. He spent his younger years in north Portland and then moved to Tigard. He graduated from Tigard High School in 1974. Jay went on to graduate from the University of Oregon in 1979 with a degree in Journalism. During his time at Oregon, Jay was a member and president of the Chi Psi fraternity. In 1986 Jay married Betsy Campbell. Together, they had two daughters.
Jay excelled in a career in advertising media sales and consulting. He worked in print and cable media and spent more than 15 years as a vice president of marketing for an advertising research and consulting firm. During that time Jay traveled nationwide as a seminar presenter. Most recently he worked in advertising sales at The Columbian newspaper. Jay was successful at everything he did. An excellent public speaker, he could capture a room with his sharp wit and infectious confidence.
The many loves in Jay's life included his daughters, his dogs, the Oregon Ducks, rafting the Deschutes River, fishing, barbecuing, "cut-throat" backgammon, and golfing with his best friends. He loved to read and was known to quote Jack Reacher, one of his favorite fictional characters.
As his friends will tell you, "Jay Wally" stories could fill a book. His humor and hilarious comments left friends chuckling into the wee hours. He was a true and loyal friend to many, always interesting and more importantly, interested.
He is survived by his mother, Alice Wallace of Portland; his sister, Joan Magin of Scappoose, OR; his daughters Kate Wallace of Atlanta, GA, Mary Straker and son-in-law Derek Straker of Vancouver; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his two beloved dogs, Fred and Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his father Eldon, his brother Jeff Wallace and his cherished Grammy B and Grammy Shields.
Family, friends and others whose lives Jay touched are invited to a memorial service on Friday, September 21, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at the Red Cross Community Room at 605 Barnes St., Vancouver 98661.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Humane Society for Southwest Washington, so that every dog might have their own "Jay Wally" to love.
