JAMES W. STANDIFORD

and grandchildren were always important to him."

James W. Standiford, 66, of Vancouver, WA, passed away on Sept. 1, 2012 at the Ray Hickey Hospice House. He was born in Vancouver on May 12, 1946 to Jim and Marian E. Standiford and later graduated from Hudson's Bay High School in 1964. Jim attended Clark College for two years.
He served in the Army Reserves from 1966-1978.
Jim retired after 40 years as an Environmental Lab Tech at Boise Cascade in Vancouver, WA and then enjoyed traveling with his wife Cheryl to Washington D.C, Hawaii, Alaska, Arizona, Grand Teton's (where he loved to watch the elk), Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, the New England states, and Long Beach, WA every year for his and Abby's birthday.
Jim was a member at the Trinity Lutheran Church for 41 years and was active with the youth group in earlier years. He was also interested in his children's sports activities all through their school years. He was also very involved with his four grandchildrens sports and was looking forward to this years high school football season.
Jim was a member of the Vancouver Trap Club and Hillsboro Trap and Skeet Club where he was an avid trapshooter, shooting sporting clays.
He enjoyed fishing for Kokanee with his grandsons and fishing for salmon and steelhead with his dog, Abby, on the Columbia River. Jim was always found with his dog, Abby, whether trapshooting, fishing or just bird watching on Lower River Road. She was always with him even if he was going to church, for a ride or just to run errands. Every Monday evening he could be found playing cards with a group of his close friends.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Cheryl; daughter, Kim Yarwood (Bruce); son, Greg Standiford (Nancy); four grandchildren, Bruce J. and Alex Yarwood and Loren and Elise Standiford; and his special pets, Abby and Joey.
He was preceded in death by both parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thurs., Sept. 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church.
