James Grady Obituary

JAMES GRADY
December 11, 1916 ~ March 30, 2015

James E. Grady passed away at age 98. Jim was born in Yakima, Washington on December 11, 1916 to Thomas E. and Alice M. Grady, the second of 4 siblings, Thomas Jr., Howard, and Winifred. Raised in Yakima, Jim graduated from Yakima High School and attended Yakima Valley Jr. College, where he met Helen Adams. Soon after their Jan. 1942 wedding, Jim joined the Army Air Corps as an aircraft armorer. He was stationed at Wendover, Utah with the 509th composite group, followed by a deployment on Tinian Island. Returning to civilian life, Jim worked for the Washington State Highway Dept., advancing to the position of Equipment Superintendent, retiring in 1979. Jim and Helen enjoyed traveling with their 5th wheel trailer, dancing, camping at their "Stump Ranch" property, and spending time with family and friends. Jim belonged to the American Legion, Mt. Adams Masonic Lodge, and Columbia Christian Church.
He is survived by Helen, his wife of 73 years; sons, J. Edward of California and Kenneth (Colleen) of Seattle; and his grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Brett.
A memorial service is planned at Evergreen Memorial Gardens at 12:30 p.m. on April 25. Interment will be in Yakima at a later date.
