JAMES "JIM" FREDERICK HARTER
November 17, 1941 ~ November 11, 2017
James Frederick Harter passed away on November 11, 2017 at the age of 75. James is survived by his wife Terri; his son Tim and wife Tracy; daughter Tina and her husband Rob; his four grandsons James, Nic, Zachary and Travis.
After high school Jim served his country as a member of the Unites States Marine Corp until 1967 and ultimately retired as a Longshoreman in 2002.
Jim was a beloved husband and father who was always there for his family. He took a very active role in his children's love of sports, by coaching both of his children in baseball and softball. If Jim wasn't coaching he was umpiring, ensuring that all children had the opportunity to play ball.
Throughout his life, he continued to support his veteran brothers and sisters in many ways. He joined the 40 et 8 and went through the ranks becoming Chef de Gare. He also joined the American Legion, ultimately becoming American Legion Post 14 Commander. As the City of Vancouver's Committee Chairman, Jim was instrumental in bringing the Medal of Honor recipients annual reunion to Vancouver. Several times he was the Chairman of the annual Veterans Day Parade; ensuring local veterans were recognized for their service.
A celebration of his life is being held Friday, November 17, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 14, 4607 NE St James Rd, Vancouver, WA 98663. Everyone is welcome to join his family for this celebration. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Friends of Hospice organization.

Teri, Tim, Tina & rest if the family grandkids & spouses I'm so sorry for your loss. I've been offline for a bit & just now read this on Tina's FB page! I'm saddened. My heartfelt prayers are with you. I recently lost my cousin Tim Chandler & lost my mom Judy who I cared for during her grueling cancer battle for five years. Losing a parent is something will all dread. And when it happens even if you're prepared it cuts so deeply when you have a close bond. I'm sorry to say your lives will change now but, hi lies within your hearts & souls for eternity. I left a patriotic image in honor of Him's service to our great Nation!

Jim was one of the good guys! So sorry for you loss, Terri, Tim and Tina. He was always there for his children back in their elementary school days at PSO along with Terri.
