"Holly loved people, and everyone loved her! Her sweet, fun-loving nature warmed the hearts of many."
Our mother, beloved sister and friend, Holly A. Shank, passed away in the presence of loved ones on September 17th, 2015.
Above all, Holly's spirit was full of love, kindness, and generosity. Her generosity was a constant support to her friends and family.
Holly was a woman with fine taste. She adored artwork, music, theatre, elegant homemaking, jewelry and the culinary world. She had a keen eye for quality, detail and beauty. She was an avid reader with biographies being her favorite. Holly had great appreciation for peoples personal stories.

Holly married her high school sweetheart, Greg Schmidt, and began her family life in Vancouver, WA. They moved to Missoula, MT when their eldest child was 6. She lived in Montana for 4 years until she moved back to Beaverton, OR to share her life with John Shank. Holly was able to explore her love of adventure with John traveling around the world and spending half the year in Palm Desert, CA.
Holly is survived by her children, ANN and Bill Matthews and their children, Thomas, Michael and Holly, ANDREW and Dayra Schmidt and their children, Raquel, Rebecca and Alexander….AMY Schmidt and Kreg Trani and their children, Alivia and Samara. When my widowed mother, Edna Snyder, married Max Weedman in 1949, I gained not only a kind and caring step-father, but a whole family of Weedman cousins. Among the first that I met were Holly and David at a marshmallow roast hosted by Birdie and Leon Weedman at their home on Lake Sacajawea. Over the next few years I enjoyed roaming the fields and exploring the barn at the Rose Valley farm with them. I do remember a fall into the creek at the farm on a cold, fall day. I think I was pushed. Holly was always a very lively and friendly girl, but the mischievous one. While I saw less of them after their move to Woodland, I still have fond childhood memories of both Holly and David. And I'm sure that her family has many delightful memories of Holly from over her wonderful life. We send our sincere condolences to all of her loved ones.

Dear Cousins, we are so sorry that we missed her service because we were out of state. I remember her dearly on the farm in Rose Valley on weekends when her folks were out of town. She was always a sweet and lovely lady and I admired her blonde hair. I was about six and she was about four.

I met Holly when she was a cheerleader at Woodland and I was one at Hudson's Bay in Vancouver, WA. We hit it off immediately and I was the one who introduced her to my classmate Greg Schmidt. Sadly we lost touch in our adult lives, but I never forgot this special young girl with the bluest eyes ever! She was a treasure and it is with those memories of her that I extend my deepest sympathies to her family. P.S. I have a picture of me with Greg and Holly at the Hudson's Bay 20th class reunion if any of the Schmidt kids would like a copy. I can be reached by email at [email protected] if you are interested in me sending it to you.

Holly was such a great and "sparkling" lady. She kept Mr. Shank on his toes and always brought such delightful energy to our annual time to get together at Johnstone. It is a quieter world, and one less confident and characterful with her passing. Congrats in heaven and pray for us.

Dear Family.. We are so sorry to hear of your Mother death. Holly was a nice and beautiful lady. Being the oldest cousin I had the pleasure of taking care of she and David when they lived in Longview. I then was in the 8th grade. Only wish we had lived closer as adults to enjoy her more. Barbara

Holly has been my dear friend for the last 10 years, and we have seen each other almost weekly during that time. We always shared each others lives and what had happened to each of us since our last meeting. Holly had so many good qualities about her including giving my life her wise and motherly perspective. At our last visit she held my hand and told me she loved me. I loved her too, and she will be dearly missed.
