HELEN (KUNTZ) TERNES HETHERINGTON
September 1, 1921 ~ January 15, 2018

Helen (Kuntz) Hetherington, passed away peacefully on Jan. 15, 2018, at the age of 96 in Vancouver, WA, at her care home, comfortably surrounded by her loving caretakers. She was born in Flasher, ND on Sept. 1, 1921, to John and Alisia Kuntz.
Helen married Philip Ternes, and together, they raised 5 children starting in Bismarck, ND, later settling in Vancouver, WA in 1956. (Philip passed away in 1984.)
After raising their 5 children, then divorcing, Helen later met William "Bill" Hetherington, USAF Veteran, and they were married in 1974. They enjoyed a happy life of work and travel together, spending many years in Louisiana, until his death in 1989.
Helen returned to Vancouver, WA to be near her children in 1991. She became a member of Catholic Daughters of America, devoting her time there, as well as traveling. Dancing was one of Helen's many passions and she could often be found dancing with her many friends at The Leupke Center, enjoying her retirement years.
Helen was also a gifted seamstress and crafter, often sharing her gift with friends and family, and participating in local craft fairs for many years.
Helen is survived by her 5 children: Ronald Ternes, Betty Tandberg, Roger Ternes, Ruth Waite and Patricia Witt;. and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and 8 siblings.
Helen (Kuntz) Ternes Hetherington was laid to rest at Fir Lane Memorial in Tacoma, WA beside her husband, Bill.
