HAROLD JOSEPH HORROCKS
July 14, 1931 ~ February 26, 2013
"You truly were a gentleman and a scholar to the end. WeloveyouthemostDad."
Harold Joseph Horrocks, 81, died peacefully at home Feb. 26, 2013. He was born July 14, 1931, in Pocatello, ID, the son of Alfred Samuel Horrocks and Belinda May Heath.
Harold began his career with an 11-year stretch as a telegrapher for the Union Pacific Railroad. He attended Idaho State University, graduating #1 in Math and Physics in 1961, while working 40 hours per week and raising three children. In 1965, he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Oregon. Harold worked as a dentist in both Gresham, OR, and Vancouver, WA, until his retirement in 1999, after being "down in the mouth" for 35 years.
Harold valued his family and his membership and
service in his church. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, quick wit, and sense of humor.
He was a history buff who made sure his children saw the "hysterical" sites around the country. He loved to do crossword puzzles in ink, dabbled in photography, swam regularly at Firstenburg, put on magic shows for his grandchildren, and loved black licorice and homemade raisin-filled cookies. He served with his wife in Moscow, Russia, on a Humanitarian Mission for the LDS Church for 18 months. He loved family history and serving in the Portland Temple. A favorite of his was the Boy Scouts, where he was honored with the Silver Beaver Award.
Harold is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn Teuscher "Poopsie"; sons, Kevin (Laurie) Horrocks and Berke (Carol) Horrocks; daughters, Susan (Randy) Plessinger, Leann Horrocks, Brynn Horrocks and Teresa (Ed) Green; 21 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by seven siblings; and his son, Hal T. Horrocks.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Vancouver Stake Center, 10509 SE 5th St., Vancouver, WA 98664, on Mon., March 4, 2013. Viewing: 9:30-10:30 a.m. Funeral service: 11:00 a.m.
