It was 23 years ago when I was blessed to work with Diane Brunese in Vancouver for a company called “Pacific Telecom, Inc.” – in the Risk Management Department - on the 9th floor – VH920. There was 3 of us in our department, Diane, our Boss - Hanh Tran, and myself. From the day I started working with Diane til the day the company was sold and bought out by Century Tel, there was never a dull moment.

She dressed sharp, always had her hair done that looked perfect, she was always to work early, I'd come in to work and there she was drinking her star bucks coffee, reading the paper, had a personality plus of wits that was so funny and shocking she made you laugh til your sides ached, and had tears in your eyes.

After working with Diane for a brief time, she was no longer known to me as Diane, I decided to call her “Maudie” as the program on TV – Maud on the Golden Girls was her to a TEE! Maudie had a comment on everything that made you laugh and cry at the same time.

Working with Maudie, she was excellent at her job. There were times, our Boss Hanh would want a document or file on a certain issue and she could not find it or remember what she did with it, so she would always call me on my phone and whisper – “HELP” laughing and saying “hurry up I need you to come help me!!”….. lol
She would ask me to come find it when Hanh wasn't looking or around… lol
Then a fews years later we got computers with E-mail addresses to email other employees in the system - the phone calls ceased, yet the emails began, and Maudie would warn me…over our cubicles – “Cindi – check your email now”!! when I would it was to help look for a lost file needed and Maudie would panic, I found myself either reconstructing the file or finding it for her.

Maudie was always funny! Always! She had a smile all the time, and usually something silly to say. All the 23 plus subsidiary's we had - she had friends everywhere. They all loved her. Maudie talked about her family constantly always keeping us up to date with what the kids or Mo was doing. I feel the staff in our department and other cubicles around knew more about her family then most. Maudie loved her job and before the company was sold she was able to retire and enjoy her retirement. Maudie not only loved her family, job and friends, she had a love for God and knowing the word.

Before Maudie left the company she gave me a bible. She signed it which I use daily and it reads –

“ What says the Bible – the Blessed Bible – This our only question be; The teaching of men so often mislead us, What says the Bible to me! Read daily…
Love Maudie Sept 19, 1995 –

A few years after she retired, I want to see her and took my bible – we talked about the bible, read scripture, and enjoyed each others company and yes we laughed til our sides ached. Precious moments to me I'll never forget!!

I work for a company for the last 19 years and this is the first year that my job takes me by Maudie's home twice a day! So everyday I drive by her home and in the afternoons I'd always look over and see her sitting in her recliner either watching TV or…. YEP reading the paper… lol

one day she noticed me as I slowed down going past her. I'm sure she was thinking “what a weirdo”! but as she looked closer she noticed it was me – and her mouth flew open and she gestured for me to call her, and used her arms to point me to come see her…..

Heartbreaking, I was busy working and when I got off work, I either had to work at another job, or had to go care for my parents who are getting up there. My intentions to go see her didn't happen fast enough in this fast pace world!! I never got to say hello one last time. I so regret not stopping everything and just going over there and putting LIFE on hold – as she was so worth going to see in the whole beginning.

I do hold the memory in my mind seeing her in her window, sitting in her chair, with a big huge smile, flapping her arms at me to come see her. So everyday when I drive by I will always think of Maudie and all the good times we had as friends and co-worker.

I love her dearly! I thank God, knowing we will see each other in our eternal life with our Lord Jesus!! Amen!! God Bless her family - Erin, Rob and Mo!

Diane was a great lady with a humorous look on life. We never saw her without her smile. RIP
