GARY WILLIAM MCBURNEY
July 24, 1943 ~ May 5, 2018

Gary William "Daddy-O" McBurney, 74, of Independence, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, May 5th in Salem, Oregon surrounded by his family.
Son of Elizabeth Barbara Haener and Albert Allen McBurney, Gary was born on July 24th, 1943 in Dallas, Oregon, the third of five children.
Gary married Linda Ruth Reaney on September 26th, 1970. They welcomed the first son Travis Lee on October 20th, 1972, their daughter Kelly Jo on November 9th, 1974 and their second son Brandon on February 17th, 1977.
Gary began his career with Pacific Power, a Pacific NW utility company, in the late 1960s, continuing until his retirement in the mid 90's.
He was actively involved in his community through volunteering efforts including the Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Grange, The Elks Club, The Lions Club, Battle Buddies, Treasure House Food Bank, Volunteer Fire Departments, and New York City 9-11 Clean Up Efforts.
His hobbies included coin collecting, metal detecting, canning local fruits and vegetables, playing pinochle and cribbage, Oregon Ducks football, and volunteering his time. Gary was an avid prankster and joke teller.
He was a loving Father, Husband, Brother and Son.
Gary is survived by his children: Travis McBurney, Kelly Wheeler and Brandon McBurney; his ex-wife, Linda McBurney; his brothers, Donald, Jimmy and Gerald McBurney; and sister, Darlene Lindmark.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, June 3rd at 1p.m. in Monmouth, Oregon at the Monmouth Senior Center, 180 Warren Street S, Monmouth, OR 97361.
The family kindly requests no flowers or gifts. Donations can be made in Gary's memory to the Monmouth Oregon Senior Center, addressed as "Friends of the Monmouth Senior Center".
