FRANCES L. ANGELO
January 12, 1920 ~ February 21, 2015
Frances L. Angelo, long time Vancouver, WA resident, passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She celebrated her 95th birthday with family and friends just six weeks before. She was born in Camas, WA to Antonio and Maria Fantini and attended Camas High School.
Frances and her husband, Lewis Angelo (deceased) of Washougal, WA were married in 1941. They raised four children, and she was involved in all the volunteer activities of growing children: church and school activities, PTA, Scouts, attending sports events, and car pooling.
Frances was a founding member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church Parish, in Vancouver, now celebrating 63 years. She was one of the original members of St. Theresa's Circle supporting various activities for the church and eventually the school. All four of her children attended St. Joseph's Elementary School.
After 20 years as a homemaker, Frances began taking night classes at Clark Community College studying to be a lab technician.
In 1962, she was hired by Kaiser Permanente as a lab assistant at the Interstate Hospital in Portland, OR. After six years she became a senior lab assistant supervisor and began training new lab technicians. Frances formalized a phlebotomy manual for use in all the Kaiser laboratories, earning this response: "Her training program has been well organized and has produced many well qualified phlebotomists for our hospital and clinics." .
Frances was a certified Phlebotomist Technologist by the National Phlebotomy Association. During her career she received numerous appreciation awards for her concern about patient care, inspiring high quality health care, excellence in performance her duties, leadership, dedication and professionalism. Frances retired from the Sunnyside Kaiser Hospital after 20 years of working in the Kaiser Hospital System.
After retirement at 62, Frances took up tennis, playing well into her 80's. She made many new friends at the Vancouver Tennis Center. She volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul, helping to collect donations and making holiday food baskets for those in need. Frances's greatest joy was her time spent at the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist Villa in Bridal Veil, OR. She made the 45-minute drive up the Columbia River Gorge once a week in all kinds of weather until she could no longer drive. Frances helped in the kitchen, baking cookies, cakes and breads.
Frances liked to travel. She and her husband made trips to Mexico, Hawaii, and Europe. In Italy, Frances visited her family in Turin, Milan, Bergamo. They enjoyed many trips to Alaska visiting their daughter and her family.
Frances is remembered often for her generosity
and thoughtful food gifts for those who were sick
or in the hospital or who needed a special thought.
Her gardening expertise in both vegetables and flowers was well known. She loved to bake and was famous for her amazing cinnamon rolls and apple pie.
Frances and Lew were avid dancers and danced almost weekly into their 90's. She loved family dinners and parties with her children and always had fun playing cards and games with her grandchildren.
Frances is survived by her four children: Lorrie (Dr. Morris) Horning, of Anchorage, AK, Robert (Ann) Angelo of Washougal, WA, Dr. Richard (Marguerite) Angelo of Seattle, WA, and Debbie (Paul) Anderson of Camas, WA; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and also by her sister-in-law, Mary Jane (Ted, deceased) Angelo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis in 2010, after almost 70 years of marriage; and her sister, Yolanda Haygarth.

My friends and I played tennis with Fran at VTC. Other teams we played against couldn't believe how old she was and still playing! I enjoyed her sweetness with an edge--she was very funny. And I'm glad you included all the info about her work life--I didn't know any of that.

Frances was an outstanding member of our community. I was fortunately in 2008 to
visit Frances & Lewis at home and connect again with Teddy, they were good friends of my Uncle Floyd Zawistowski.

What a gal! We met because of tennis, and had lots of fun at VTC. I think she last took a tune-up tennis lesson when she was 92---and advised me not to tell her kids. Sometimes she'd arrive at my house with a plate of freshly baked cookies----for my husband. She thought I was neglecting him by playing too much tennis. I was so honored to be at her 95th birthday in January. A wonderful friend.

Thank you, thank you for this fine tribute to quite a remarkable and service-oriented woman, I can see why it is true that modeling is the best teacher. I had no idea she was a certified phlebotimist after child rearing and four such important children for all of us to treasure. What a legacy

We had the pleasure of getting to know Frances when she visited Lorrie, Morris, Kevin and Shawn in Anchorage. We were struck by her curiosity about everything Alaskan. When she visited, she brought boxes of fresh vegetables for family and friends to share. What a pleasure and honor to have known her.

I've know Francis all my life, Lew and Fran and the family lived next door to us for over 40 years. She was one of the most loving, giving, and wonderful people I have ever known and I will miss her greatly. I do have lots of fond and some funny memories of growing up next door to the family so she will be remembered with love and a smile. I will miss you.

We have fond memories of Francis. In Palm Desert we enjoyed breakfast on the patio with toast and homemade jam from her kitchen. She and Lou were fun to visit with and always had opinions to share. We miss them both and send love to their family.

Frances was often seen at Norma Monroes kitchen table playing cards, Yatzee, or other games when I would come to visit. As Norma's grand daughter, I personally didn't know Frances well but it was well understood that she was Sittis best friend, she was family. She always welcomed me with a hug, invited me to join them at the table or have a cup of tea. The last time I saw Frances was at Sittis funeral service - I told her she should have been sitting with the family, but health made it difficult for her to travel to the front of the church. Blessings Frances
