DONALD JEROME SANDVIG
December 24, 1931 - May 27, 2012
Donald Jerome Sandvig of Ridgefield, Washington passed away peacefully on May 27, 2012 at the age of 80. He was born December 24, 1931 in Grafton, North Dakota.
Don's greatest joy was his family. He was very proud of his children and grand children and loved spending time with them. He loved throwing pool parties in his backyard and singing with his sisters, always in perfect harmony. Don was just sure that he would "hit it big" with the lottery and lived for his Tuesdays with his sister Lois. They would do a little gambling, have lunch and share stories of their childhood. He was very proud of his Scandinavian heritage and tried to eat once a month at the Sons of Norway, enjoying Swedish pancakes. He was an excellent breakfast cook and some of the grandkids best times were spent at the breakfast table with Grandma and Papa.
Don worked for the Washington State Highway Department until he retired in 1982. After retirement he worked at Tektronix for ten years. Don was known for his sweet, gentle spirit and was loved by all.
Don is survived by his children, Kathy Widle (Rich), Michelle Theodoss (Peter) and David Sandvig (Denise); grandchildren Megan Conahan (Chris), Kristin Cano (Nathan), Ryan and Jenna Widle, Jake Sandvig, Stephanie Sandvig, Brandon Gronewald (Terra) and his great-grandchildren Brendan, Chenin, James and Kaelynn.
He was preceded in death by his wife LaVonne Sandvig; his children, Peggy Generaux, Steven Yaw and Michael Sandvig; sisters Evelyn Hammond, Eleanor Dozark and Lois Skaaden; and parents Theodore and Hilma Sandvig.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 4:00 P.M. at the Hostess House, 10017 NE 6th Ave., Vancouver, WA 98685.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the
