DONALD ADOLPH MARTELL
August 22, 1933 ~ July 24, 2017
" Don was a quiet and modest man
who enjoyed life's simple pleasures."

Donald Adolph Martell passed away on the morning of July 24, 2017. He was born Aug. 22, 1933 to Adolph and Eleanor (Wills) Martell in their Esther Short homestead. After graduating from Vancouver High School in 1952, he enlisted in the Army and actively served during the Korean war and continued his service in the Reserves for 8 years.
Don met and married the love of his life, Arlene Riddle, in 1955 and together they raised four children.
Don made a career in retail sales and served the local community on various boards and committees. He took pride in being a member of the American Legion Post 14 and St. James Catholic Church.
He was proud of his family
and especially loved being a grandfather.
Don is survived by his children, Renee Taggart, Dawn (Jim) Steel, Gordon (Ida) Martell, and Greg Martell; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Arlene, after nearly 60 years of marriage; and two sisters, Ruth Ramey and MaryAnn Emmons.
To honor his wishes, Don will be interred privately in the Mother Joseph Catholic Cemetery of Vancouver.
He requested that gifts in his memory be made to St. James Catholic Church.
