DOLORES (HANSEN) MCQUIVEY
May 26, 1933 ~ November 29, 2014
"Dolores was cherished by all who knew her."
Our dearest wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Dolores (Hansen) McQuivey, 81, passed away on Sat., Nov. 29, 2014 in a local hospital in Vancouver, WA, of complications from a pulmonary embolism. Dolores was born May 26, 1933 in Magna, UT to her parents, Elmer James and Emma Pearl (Lancaster) Hansen. She spent her childhood in Magna and graduated from Cypress High School in 1951.
On Sept. 18, 1951, Dolores married her high school sweetheart, Sergeant Kent LeRoy McQuivey, recently returned from serving in the Korean War. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Dolores and Kent became the parents of five children.
She was an avid quilter who enjoyed spending her time making quilts. Dolores donated many quilts to community service projects and she made a quilt for each and every great-grandchild. She was the ultimate fan for the sport activities of her grandchildren. She loved nature and gardening. Dolores was a financial consultant, but she would say her greatest achievement was caring for her family. She was an accomplished pianist who taught her grandchildren how to play the piano. She was a genealogist and the family historian. She was also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Dolores is survived by her husband, Kent; her five children and their spouses, Diane (Rae) Anderson, Karin (Rich) Schoepke, Marianne (Dean) Barrus, Michael (Marci) McQuivey and David (Ingrid) McQuivey; 25 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Paul (Billie) Hansen; five brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Karl McQuivey, Val (Georgine) McQuivey, Kay Harrison, Wayne (Camille) McQuivey, and Robyn (Bob) Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and grandsons, Chance Dale McQuivey and Chase David McQuivey.
There will not be a viewing. Visitation with family will be 12:30-1:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 14400 NW 26th Ave., Vancouver, WA, on Sat., Dec. 6th, followed by her memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted before 9:00 a.m. on Sat., Dec. 6th at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 NE 112th Ave.

We did not know Dolores personally but we are friends with her wonderful daughter Marci. We know how difficult this time of sorrow is so we want her family to know how much we care and that they are in our thoughts and prayers.

I am so lucky to have grown up with Dolores; I knew her my entire life. Although I am not related to her, I always called her Grandma. She always made me laugh and feel loved. I know that she is an angel who looks over her family. Dolores, I love you so much and thank you for all that you have given me and taught me.

Remarkable presence and sweetest spirit; always a bright welcome for all whom she encountered. Faithful and true to Christ. We all share this (temporary) separation, with the certainty of a glorious resurrection, waiting. Our sincere condolences to your family!
