Dawn Pratt Obituary

DAWN A. PRATT
December 23,1929 ~ September 9, 2017

Dawn A. Pratt left the world like she lived her life: on her own terms and in her own way. Though Alzheimer's claimed her, the core of who she was still shone out for those who knew how to see.
Mom was born in Seattle, WA to Jack and Anna Lay, and grew up in Port Angeles and Chimicum, WA. The Olympic Peninsula was her beloved playground for her entire life. She attended the U of WA, where she met her husband Fred Pratt and majored in Home Ec and teaching.
Dawn and Fred moved to Camas in 1955, where they raised three amazing children. As the family grew, Dawn worked as the children's librarian at the Camas Public Library, and finished her career as the Media Specialist at Riverview Elementary School, Vancouver.
After her career, mom traveled the world, where she enjoyed meeting people from different cultures. She was a life-long learner with a bold heart and strong liberal spirit. Mom was an amazing quilter, gardener, reader and volunteer. She sang with the Vancouver USA Singers for decades. She loved animals, and took her dog to visit nursing homes and "Read to the Dog" programs in schools. She seldom met an antique she didn't like.
Surviving her are daughter, Alice Pratt Frascone (Jay); son, Dan Pratt (Helga), with granddaughters, Heidi and Andrea; and daughter, Jennifer Pratt-Walter (Craig), with grandchildren, Harold, Brian and Rowan. Nephew and nieces, John and Sharen Spanier, and Anne Peck also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Spanier; and brother, Warren Lay.
Dawn's children wish to warmly thank Lilia and Eddie Magda of Magda's Adult Care, and their CNAs Jessica, Carol and Victor, for outstanding and compassionate end-of-life care, and Barbara and Pam for their courageous in-home care of mom in difficult times.
Please join us on Fri., Oct. 13th at 1:00 p.m. for a memorial service at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Vancouver, 4505 E. 18th St., Vancouver, WA. Light refreshments to follow.
Dawn would be pleased if you made a donation to The Humane Society or Doctors Without Borders in her honor.

Loved my Aunt very much. She was a lovely person. I will always treasure my time with her. I have so many fond memories of family time spent with her. She was an amazing ,if slow, quilter who gave me quite a bit of help as i was learning. I will miss her.

I remember Dawn very well, as I spent many hours with her as a caregiver through an agency. She loved to go for rides around the county, and I did more exploring on obscure Clark County roads than I would ever have even thought of! She showed me all kinds of territory and gave me a lot of history to go along with the areas we covered. I think of her often when I drive on those East County mountainous roads!
