CLARE (LAYMAN) PETTIGREW
March 24, 1939 ~ February 17, 2018
Clare Pettigrew passed away peacefully at the Cottages at University Place on Saturday, February 17, 2018. She was born to Helen and Don Layman on March 24, 1939 in Toledo, Ohio and had two siblings. Clare left Ohio after high school and moved to San Francisco, where she met her husband, Richard Pettigrew. They later moved to Vancouver, WA and raised a family.
Clare worked as a cashier and then later as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Hobbies included oil painting, yoga, gardening and the guitar. The family built a vacation home in Nemah, WA, where they became friends with the Nakagawas and involved in the oyster industry. Her family was extended to include an exchange student from Japan, Junko Watanuki Sanchez.
In her retirement, Clare visited Europe with aunt Olive. She collected antique bisque dolls and appreciated the beautiful furniture her husband built. She also enjoyed walking around Fort Vancouver with her husband.
Clare is survived by her husband, Richard; daughter, Susan Chittenden of University Place, WA; son, Paul Pettigrew of Port Angeles, WA; and four grandchildren: Alexis, Matthew, Andrew and Elizabeth.
At Clare's request there will be no service.

I knew Clare for 20 years and she was one of the sweetest women I've ever known. She was kind spirited and always smiling. She will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Dick and their family.
