SUZANNE DOROTHY (LANE) SAVAGE
October 17, 1934 ~ April 29, 2017
Our mom, Suzanne Dorothy Lane Savage, of Vancouver, Washington, passed away on April 29, 2017, surrounded by family and her longtime friend, Myra York. We loved her so very much and she told us many times how much she loved us.
Mom was born in Pocatello, Idaho on October 17, 1934, the daughter of Maurice Homer "Pat" Lane and Dorothy May (Snyder) Lane. She graduated from Pocatello High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Idaho State University.
Mom met her future husband, David Earl Savage, on a blind date, and the rest is history. They were happily married for 45 years before his death in 2001. Her brother, Ben Lane, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Mike Savage; and two daughters, Cindy Savage (Martyn) Harris and Nancy Savage (John) Calderbank; four grandchildren, Jeni Savage (Kyle) House, Steve Savage, Ryan Harris and Jane Calderbank. She was blessed to have a great-granddaughter, Keani Savage.
Recently, mom was thrilled to meet her half grand-nephew, Ray Day, of Baker City, Oregon. Of course, any remembrance of mom would not be complete without mentioning the special companion in her life, her little gray kitty, Hannah. They were great friends.
Mom worked as a Registered Nurse for the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Vancouver for 25 years. After retirement, mom began painting again, a hobby which gave her much pleasure. She also liked to scrapbook, make cards, and research her family history. Mom also enjoyed attending services at St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses involved in her care over the years, and especially those who helped us through those final days. We also owe a debt of gratitude to the Legacy Hospital at Salmon Creek chaplains, and her parish priest, Fr. Jaime Case, who offered us so much support.
Honoring her wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Vancouver Humane Society, or your favorite local charity.
