Robert Lenwood Cleere of Vancouver, WA, passed away at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center on Fri., Nov. 30, 2012 at approximately 3:35 a.m. with his daughter Mary Alice at his side. "Bert" Cleere was 78 when he died, and had lived in and around Vancouver for over 50 years. Bert was born in Ellensburg, WA on May 25, 1934, to his parents Homer and Georgena. He was their only child.
Bert joined the Marines in 1953 during the Korean War. He had earned two medals by the time of his honorable discharge in 1957 with the rank of Sergeant.
After his military service, Bert began working at Vancouver's Boise Cascade paper mill where he held numerous positions over a career of 30+ years.
At Boise Cascade, Bert met Joan Oberman. Bert and Joan married in 1960 and raised two children in Vancouver, Craig and Mary Alice. They divorced in 1979 after being married for 19 years.
In 1980, Bert met Oralia Rosas, a mother of eight from Texas. Bert and Oralia had a long-term relationship of 18 years before marrying in 1998. Oralia passed away in 2008 when they had been married for 10 years.
Bert Cleere is survived by his two children by Joan and his eight step-children by Oralia, and all of their spouses; as well as 26 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Sat., Dec. 8, 2012. Weather permitting, a graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. to include a military honor guard. Eulogies will be given afterward in the chapel at 3:00 p.m., followed by a reception in Evergreen Memorial Garden's reception hall.
