Randall C. "Randy" Salisbury

Randall C. "Randy" Salisbury of Vancouver, WA, passed away on May 2, 2013 from brain cancer. He was born in Los Angeles, California on May 26, 1956 to Gail and Margaret Salisbury. Gail and Margaret moved their family to Olympia when Randy was 4 years old. He graduated from Olympia High School in 1974 and Washington State University in 1979 with degrees in Liberal Arts and Architecture.
Randy moved to Vancouver, WA in June of 1979 where he began his architecture career with Nelson, Walla, and Dolle. The firm was renamed the Dolle, Swatosh Partnership (DSP) in 1984. Randy became a principal at the firm in 1995. His area of expertise was in hospital design. He had a hand in over 400 projects at Peace Health Southwest Washington Medical Center. Randy was most proud of the work he did for many non-profits including the Children's Center, Community Services Northwest, Friends of the Carpenter, Salvation Army, Share, Second Step Housing, and YWCA.
Randy married Jayne (Austin) Salisbury in 1985. The two were reacquainted at their 10-year high school reunion and married one year later. Randy became an instant dad to sons, Justin and Erik, when they were 5 and 3 years old. He was active in their lives from the start, passing on his love for the outdoors and long road trips. Over the years, the family drove through 43 states and along much of the Trans Canada Highway.
Randy's greatest enjoyment was to spend as much time as possible on the road or hiking. He was most happy hiking the trails in the Columbia Gorge and Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Favorite mountain climbs included Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood, Three Sisters, and Mt. St. Helens.
Randy was active in many organizations in the Vancouver area. He was the scout leader for Cub Scout Pack 375 from 1988 to 1993 when his sons were Cub Scouts. He later went on to become an Assistant Scout Master in Boy Scout Troop 731 where he was instrumental in helping Justin and Erik achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.
Randy was a member of the Greater Clark County Rotary Club where he achieved 20 years of perfect attendance, served on the Foundation Board, was president of the club in 1999, and was honored with several Paul Harris Fellowships. It was through this organization that Randy became the chair of the New Year's Eve gala held at the Vancouver Hilton for 4 years. He made his mark in the club with of his love for singing by writing and recording promotional songs for their annual Rose Sale. He also wrote and performed tribute songs for the out-going president of the club for the past 14 club presidents.
Randy was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Vancouver Association, and served as president of the Parking Advisory Committee.
He served on the board of the Southwest Washington Red Cross Chapter for many years and was board chair for the past 2 years.
Randy is survived by his wife, Jayne; his sons, Justin (Minh Hoang) and Erik (Katie); granddaughter, Iris; and sister, Leslie (Gary) Demich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gail and Margaret Salisbury.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 1, 2013 at 12:30 PM at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, WA followed by a reception at Royal Oaks Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater Clark County Rotary Club Foundation or the Southwest Washington Chapter of the Red Cross.
