MARVEL JEANNE BURROUGHS
October 20, 1931 ~ July 2, 2017
Jeanne passed away July 2nd, 2017. She was born October 20th, 1931 in Beatrice, NE to Frank and Agnes Mather. Jeanne married Milton Matthew Burroughs on July 30th, 1949. They had two children; Melody Scheer (LaVerne) and Mark Burroughs (Mary). Jeanne and Milt built the first family home on 33rd street by themselves.
Jeanne always kept busy with her various hobbies. She was an accomplished tole painter, loved to collect things and decorate the house. Her collection of nut crackers and knick knacks was impressive. She always said her hobby was shopping to find treasures.
Jeanne and Milt also raised and raced quarter horses, for which they received many awards from the Quarter Horse Association. Jeanne had a keen eye for horses and had major input on the selection of the stallions they would breed their horses to. The regulars at Portland Meadows would seek betting tips on the quarter horse races from Jeanne. She was right a good share of the time. Besides the day to day chores, Jeanne was the primary nurse when the horses got hurt.
Jeanne was always there to support family without being in the spot light. She always wanted to make someone else's life better before worrying about herself. She was a very strong willed and tough woman.
The family is forever thankful to have been
blessed with Jeanne as our mother.
Jeanne is survived by: daughter, Melody Scheer (LaVerne); son, Mark Burroughs (Mary); grandchildren, Corey Scheer (Juliet), Brock Scheer (Priscilla), Scott Burroughs, Lisa St. Denis (Des); and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Milton Matthew Burroughs; and her parents, Frank and Agnes Mather.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Pleasant Family Home Staff and Ray Hickey House Staff. Without these people, our journey would have been much more difficult.
