LUCY MARY (HAM) VOLLER
January 30, 1924 ~ March 23, 2017
Lucy Mary Voller, age 93, of Battle Ground, WA, passed away Thursday March 23rd, 2017. Lucy was the youngest daughter born to Louis and Frances Ham on January 30, 1924 in Bartlett, NE. In 1935, she moved with her family to White Bluffs, WA, where she met and married her first husband Ernest Ross on May 13, 1941. They had 3 children, Thelma Maxine, Frances Ethel and Jacquine Louise.
She worked in the wheat fields of Eastern Oregon with husband Ernie, and had many stories to share of those adventures. She also worked as a photo colorist for various studios and freelance photographers for years, as well as a phone solicitor for Volunteers of America. She was passionate about genealogy, and felt it was very important that everyone knew where they came from, and learned the stories from the past that wove together to become the fabric of the present.
Lucy loved words. Reading them, working with them, and putting them together in ways no one else could. She was a gifted poet, able to sense the grief of others and bring them comfort with her beloved words. Her ability to "Give Sorrow Words" was a legacy she wanted to share, and with the help of daughter Frances and good friend Cathy, she compiled some of her poetry into a book bearing that title with the hope of easing some of the sadness others endure.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Thelma Ross in 1942; first husband, Ernest Ross in 1980; second husband, Raymond Voller in 2005; and daughter, Jacquine Hausinger in 2013. She is survived by daughter, Frances Pratt; granddaughter, Jodi Tappan; grandson, Matthew Pratt; great-grandsons, Josh and Ryan Tappan; great- granddaughter, Bayleigh Pratt; and sister-in-law, Margo Ham.
Lucy truly had a heart of gold, and was able to create ripples with her life that have gone on to touch many. We are honored to celebrate the dash between the day she entered this world and the day she left. We encourage you to do the same.
