LAURA BELLE "BILLIE" STURGEON
HALONE CAMPBELL
March 12, 1930 ~ November 1, 2013
The following tribute to life was written by Laura Belle Campbell. She asked that it be shared with her many friends and family:
I was born on March 12, 1930 in Vancouver, WA to Jewel and Blanche Sturgeon and lived my entire life in Clark County. I passed away peacefully on Nov. 1, 2013, surrounded by my children.
I loved to work in my yard, flower and vegetable gardens and make my home beautiful. My two most important accomplishments were learning how to swim and ride a bike. But later in my life, having children was tops!
At eight years, I learned to drive my brother Ralph Sturgeon's Model-T Ford - we had a great time together with it. Ralph was always so devoted - we had many happy years of childhood fun together.
Summer recreation was pretty simple fun; the best spot was at Allen's Swimming Hole on Lacamas Creek.
I attended Vancouver High School, where Betty McKenna was my favorite teacher. She was famous for her baseball team. Illness caused me to graduate a year late in 1949.
After school, I worked for Kaplan's Ladies' Fine Apparel Shop in downtown Vancouver. I really enjoyed working with fashion! My granddaughter, Lauralee, also loves fashion. She owns The Runway Exchange in Sonora, CA, an upscale women's consignment store.
I drove school bus for the Evergreen School District for about 23 years. I really enjoyed being a special education bus driver. The kids were so great to be around! It brought me a lot of pleasure to be able to greet the kids and their families everyday!
I was preceded in death by my parents; Glen Campbell, husband; Bill Jones, very dear friend; and Jeremiah Jewel Johnson, grandson, who gave his life for his country.
A mother's love transcends time
and circumstance and endures forever.
Survived by my children: Jewelie Jones (Tom), Jennie Dickson and Elizabeth "Beth" Johnson (Dave), each of Vancouver, WA, and Laurie Halone (Judy), of Bonney Lake, WA. I leave behind 12 grandchildren: Lisa Jones; Harmony Dickson Franklin, Patrick, Andrew and Chris Dickson; Casey Halone, Amy Halone Smith and Katy Halone Bean; Naphtali, Zac and Tim Johnson and Lauralee Johnson Whitman. My great-grandchildren are: Justin, Briana, Kaylin, Makena, Jonah, Isaiah, Rya, Joshua and Dahlia; special friends who enriched my life are: Mabel, Jackie, Violet and Sindy; also a very special young man, Surge!
I wish to thank Visiting Angels, especially Jan and Lilia - who took such good care of me, as well as Kaiser and Kaiser Hospice.
At my request, my body has been donated to Medcure.
A private celebration of my life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, I ask you to register as a blood and organ donor.

Our prayers continue to your family. Laura was such a faithful friend to my mother, Edna Cook, and to us. Beth, thank you for the beautiful memorial brochure. May the Lord bless you all,

So sorry to hear about Laura Belle. Our families lived close to each other when we were growing up. My brother Donald Allen was Ralphs friend and Laura and I were friends. Our family used to walk to sturgeon's home to visit The neighborhood swimming hole was on our property. I'm sorry we lost contact after we moved. May God comfort her family and help you all to remember the good times you had. Blessings from Ethel Allen Runyan and my husband Bud

Dear Mom..everytime I look at your picture it is just hard to realize that you are gone...but joy when I remember that you are present with the Lord. You taught us so well...and just because you tried to get me to floss my teeth for all of my life...I do it everyday now in honor of you! Give Jeremiah a hug : )

Jennie,
Thinking of you and your family and remembering the times we got together and talked about our junior high days, our adult years, and our aging parents. I was so glad your mom organized your birthday lunch at McGrath's several years ago, as it gave us a chance to reconnect and reminisce. You and your family are in my prayers. Hugz

I never knew this lady but went to high school with one of her daughters--Jenny. I was blessed to read Ms. Campbell's self-written life statement. She sounds like a a very giving, loving person, and my heartiest condolences to her family.
