John V. Galko

September 9, 1929 ~ July 5, 2014

John V. Galko died at his home in Vancouver, Washington on July 5, 2014, at the age of 84, after a courageous struggle with emphysema and pulmonary hypertension. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 9, 1929 to Martin and Katerina (Halik) Galko.
John married Marcy Janousek on September 11, 1948. She was 18, he 19, and they were married 65 years.
He worked for CPC International in Argo, Illinois for 37 years as a Foreman. He and Marcy owned the Palos Pantry in Palos Park, Illinois before retiring to Sequim, Washington. He has lived in Fairway Village for the last 13 years.
John was an active man, and everything he did, he did well and with passion. He built a house for his family at the age of 25. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and bowler.
He gave back to the community by becoming a Mason and served as a volunteer Firefighter and Paramedic as Captain of the Palos Park Fire Department.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Marcy; sister, Anne Bolek of Chicago; three daughters, Chris McCullough of Battle Ground, Washington, Janet Keel of Puyallup, Washington and Susan Jeffrey of Kirkland, Washington; five grandchildren, Marc Dryer, Courtney (McCullough) Stephenson, Jonnie, Justin and Jayme Crivello; and three great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service Sunday, July 13th, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
