Glenn Fredrickson Obituary

GLENN ALFRED FREDRICKSON
July 8, 1936 ~ September 21, 2017

Glenn Alfred Fredrickson, 81, passed away on Sept. 21, 2017 in Vancouver, WA. He was born to Alfred and Esther Fredrickson on July 8, 1936, joining his older brother, Delbert "Del". Glenn lived most of his boyhood years next to his paternal grandparents, who homesteaded on Fredrickson Road in Woodland, WA. After his younger brothers Duane and Thomas "Tom" joined the family, they all left the homestead and moved to a 60-acre farm on the Woodland Bottoms.
In October 1954, Glenn enlisted in the United States Army. Before leaving for training, he asked LaVerne Zumstein to marry him. She said yes. After his Army training, he was deployed to South Korea as part of the 21st Infantry Division. He spent 14 months in South Korea on a peace-keeping mission. When he returned to the States, he was stationed at Fort Lewis Washington, until his honorable discharge in October 1956. Glenn and LaVerne were married December 8, 1956.
Glenn worked for Boeing and Ben Thomas Logging before starting his own business, Glenn's Diesel Repair. He ran that business for 32 years until his retirement.
When Glenn was young, his father taught him how to hunt and fish. Glenn taught his own son's, and remained an avid sportsman until his passing.
Glenn is survived by his brother, Duane (JoAnn) Fredrickson; three children: Doug (Brenda) Fredrickson of Ridgefield, Scott and Steven Fredrickson of Woodland; his step-children: Larry Jr. (Kim) York and Nichole York; his grandchildren: Bryan (Sarah), Ashley, Spencer and Thomas Fredrickson; his step-grandchildren: Grace and Cindy York and Jaycee, Taylor and Jennifer Flowers; and his great-grandson, Hunter Fredrickson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Delbert and Thomas.
Glenn was honest, hardworking and fun. He was
one of the good guys and will be missed terribly.
A celebration of Glenn's life will take place at Summit Grove Lodge, 30810 NE Timmen Road, Ridgefield, WA 98642 on Sat., Nov. 25, 2017 at 2 p.m.
Donations may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Woodland, WA in memory of Glenn Fredrickson.

I was honored that Glenn called me one of his best friends. He was a pleasure to be with, a good man with a good heart. We used to sit around his firepit and drink beer under the trees, feeling the wind off the ridge and enjoying the fire. I'd listen while he told stories of his life, his family, the things he'd experienced and done. He appreciated the small adventures of my own life, and taught me much through his own adventures of growing up in Woodland, hunting, fishing, and outdoors.

One time, a tree fell across my drive at the cabin. But it fell into the notch of another tree. Two professional loggers looked at it and said, no way, that's a danger tree; can't take it down without special equipment. Glenn took one look at it and said, let me get my 'cat. Couple hours later, the tree was safely down, and no one hurt. The only thanks Glenn would accept was a sixpack -- which of course, I always kept handy for him.

I have missed Glenn this past year, and now I will miss him more. I know that God has a special place in heaven for good men such as Glenn. Here on earth, he will always have a special place in my heart.

My sincere condolences for his family and friends. A piece of me is gone with Glenn, and I can only imagine how deeply the grief is for others.

May the love and support of family and friends give you strength to cope with your loss of Glenn A Fredrickson. And may the comforting promise found at 2 Thessalonians 3:16 be of comfort. That "the Lord of peace himself give you peace constantly in every way. May the Lord be with you."

Glenn was my brother-in-law and it was at a Woodland Planters Day party at his and LaVerne's home that I first heard of his younger brother, Tom, who was still serving in Viet Nam. Long story short...that was in 1967...50 years of memories. Glenn was a fun loving family man. He had many friends and will be missed. Our condolences to all of his family.
