Earl Hoyt Obituary

EARL ARTHUR HOYT
March 18, 1924 ~ July 19, 2014
"Earl was a gentleman, always had a positive
attitude, and was known for his sense of humor."

Earl Arthur Hoyt, 90, of Vancouver, WA, a proud member of the "Greatest Generation", passed away July 19, 2014. He was born in Vancouver to Ernest and Cleo Hoyt. Earl finished the 10th grade and grew up working in the family business, "Hoyt Plumbing", that was started by his father. He worked as a plumber and learned to run a backhoe and became very proficient at it. Earl later worked for NW Natural Gas Company as an excavating contractor. Upon leaving there, he started "Earl Hoyt Excavating".
After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he was anxious to enlist. So Earl enlisted into the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion (CB's) as a shipfitter. The Seabee's motto was, "WE CAN BUILD AND WE CAN FIGHT". He spent 30 months in the service, 18 months overseas on Pearl Harbor, Guam, and Wake Island building airstrips and barracks and was honorably discharged on May 1, 1946.
He was a member of the Vancouver Elks and American Legion and enjoyed drawing.
Earl's survivors include his sons, Robert Ferretti, Steven Hoyt, Craig Hoyt and Jeffrey Hoyt; daughters, Rita Nelson, Peggy Hoyt, Penny Hedval and Pamela Wolff; and sister, Lucille Russell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ovide and Donald Hoyt; sisters, Dorothy Middaugh and Donna Hayden; and nephew, Brian Hoyt.
A memorial service will be held Fri., July 25, 2014 at 12:00 noon, after a visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at Northwood Park Funeral Home.
Special thanks to Merrill Gardens Assisted Living facility.

Earl,
I have fond memories learning how to play pinochle with you. Where ever you were, you had a quick joke and a wonderful laugh that I will never forget. Holiday dinners were always better with you around. Creamed peas was one of your favorites. You complained about having a "small mouth" with your funny smirk but you always managed to get your fill. My Aunt always kept you on your toes whenever she was in your company. Thank you for a wonderful wife whom with we have created a great family. There will always be warm memories of you in my mind and in my heart.
