Delores Landis

DELORES LANDIS
1920 ~ 2013

Delores Landis passed away on November 22, 2013 at age 93 in Yakima, WA. She was born and raised in Anderson County, KS. Growing up on a farm with her five sisters and two brothers conditioned her to work and study hard which she did all her life.
Her favorite childhood pastime was pretending to be the teacher, playing school. She often talked about the pleasure this brought to her. She did achieve her dream and taught school in her home area. Teaching in a one room schoolhouse was one of the greatest joys in her life. Her students of seventy years ago have remained in contact with her.
She married Claron Landis before he volunteered and served in the Pacific Theater in WWII. Together they built their dream house in Vancouver, WA. She loved growing flowers. Their yard was filled year round with blossoms. Hundreds of family pictures attest to that.
Her husband preceded her, passing away in 1994 after 53 years of marriage. She continued to live in the house they loved until 2007 when she moved to Yakima WA to be near her son and grandchildren.
She is survived by two sisters, Minnie Hooten and Thelma Wooster of Vancouver, WA; her son Al Landis of Apache Junction, AZ; grandchildren, Virginia Bonser of Yakima WA, William Landis of Howell, MI; many great grand- children, nephew, nieces and her special friends from her years of teaching in Kansas.
Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. November 29, 2013 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver Washington. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Memorial Hospital Hospice Care or Highgate Senior Living, both of Yakima, as for the past several months the staff of each of these programs have provided extraordinary loving care.
