Carl Thorson Obituary

CARL ORVILLE THORSON
October 30, 1927 ~ December 17, 2013

Carl O. Thorson, 86, passed away Dec. 17, 2013 in Vancouver, WA. He enjoyed 59 years on his small farm in Ridgefield, WA. He was born the second of six children to Swedish immigrants, Carl E. Thorson and Beatrice R. (Rosenquist) Thorson in Crosby, ND.
While serving in the Army at Fort Carson, CO in 1947, Carl met and married his wife of 66 years, Lois Walters. After marrying, they returned to Crosby for a short time before moving to Vancouver. Carl worked at Stedbco Lumber Mill, Celatchie Prairie Mill before becoming a longshoreman.
After early retirement, Carl became the number one fan and supporter of any team his grandchildren were playing on. Home or away, Grandpa Thorson was at the game. His four grandchildren were the light of his life.
Carl's priority was family, his children and grandchildren.
He was a farmer at heart and kept busy on his small farm. Carl always had time to lend a hand or fix something. He enjoyed sports and was always ready for a game of pinochle or cribbage.
Carl is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lois; daughter, Donna; son, Keith (Leslie); daughter-in-law, Susan (Orv-deceased); grandchildren, Eric (Jean) Thorson, Nicole (Derek) Dukart, Jason (Sarah) Thorson, Signe (Brian) Lisac; five great-grandchildren, Jakob, Thomas, Katie Dukart, Cody and Carson Lisac; a baby girl Thorson due in May; sister, Eva Brandberry; and neighbor granddaughters, Kenzie and Maggie Arnold.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dr. O.R. Thorson; brothers, Harold, Arnold, Roger and Gordon.
There will be a memorial service at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on sat., Jan. 11, 2014 at 12:30 p.m.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to The American Heart Association, The American Diabetes Association, Breast Cancer or the Parkinson's Disease research of Oregon.

Carl Thorson was a kind and generous man to me and my family. As I got to know him more closely during his later years, even when dementia and Alzheimer's had started taking their toll, I saw that he was still a happy jokester, and kid at heart.

Carl was more than a neighbor to us, he was a friend. We enjoyed listening to his stories and working on his farm with him. Carl will be remembered always and greatly missed.

Carl was a nice man to my dad "Tiger", mom "Lois" and uncle "Bob Yabs". My dad and uncle both worked with Carl as Longshoremen. He went to both of my parents funerals...I wish I could go to his, but I cannot. My thoughts are with his family. Sincerely, Sandi Yabs Stuhr

Many wonderful memories of visits from Carl and Lois while growing up. A Crosby native, like my mother - Virginia Kelley, he always had great stories of life on the farm. He will be remembered fondly. Thinking of you, Lois,
