BETTY RUTH (DRAPER) PREABT
October 19, 1918 ~ November 4, 2017
Betty Preabt was born October 19, 1918 to Nora Naomi (Herscher) and Arthur Samuel Draper, in Seattle WA. She passed away peacefully at home in Washougal, WA on November 4, 2017. She was the fifth of seven siblings.
The family moved to Lincoln, NE after her father died in an accident when she was 4 years old. She attended Lincoln Public Schools and then went to Assemblies of God Bible School in Enid, OK. When the school relocated to Texas, she left for California with two girlfriends.
She met her first husband Oswald H. Rusk while attending Santa Ana Foursquare Church. They moved to Orchards, WA in 1952. Together they had four daughters. They divorced in 1954. In 1962 she met and married Linn A. Preabt. Linn and Betty moved to Washougal in 1969 when he got a job at the paper mill. They had 46 wonderful years together.
Betty was a wonderful kind and caring mother,
grandmother and aunt. She was deeply cherished
by her family and friends. She left a mark on many lives and will be dearly missed.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Linn; brother Arthur Draper; and five sisters, Peggy Draper, Vera Martin, Pat Milton, Norene Tyler and Marian Gardner. She is survived by her daughters and son-in laws, Ruth N. Rusk of West Linn, OR, Betty Anna (Maynard) Clapp of Vancouver, WA, Francine (Steve) Chick of Woodinville, WA and Evelyn Rusk of Camas, WA; 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grand children, one great-great granddaughter; 27 nieces and nephews and friend Donna L. Black whom she referred to as her 'adopted' daughter.
The family would like to thank the physicians and Peace Health Hospice who were so supportive in Betty's final days.
A celebration of her 99 years of life will be held at 12:30 p.m., November 18, 2017 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver. WA, reception following.
