HOWARD L. LORENZ
July 8, 1926 ~ July 19, 2014

Howard Leroy Lorenz, 88, a lifelong resident of Camas, WA, passed away peacefully on Sat., July 19th, 2014 with family by his side. The son of Gus and Marie Lorenz, Howard was born on July 8th, 1926 and attended Camas schools, graduating in 1944. He was active in athletics and was elected ASB president his senior year.
After graduation, Howard joined the Navy and became a machinist on a mine sweeper.
He then attended Willamette University, graduating with a Business degree. While at Willamette, Howard earned six varsity letters in football and tennis, was honored as team captain in football, and was selected president of his SAE fraternity.
Howard began his real estate career and opened Lorenz Realty in 1960. This was his true calling and he spent the next thirty years guiding Camas-Washougal families toward finding their perfect home.
Howard was proud of his community and was active in various civic activities. He served on the Camas Planning Commission for twenty five years helping shape Camas into the vibrant city it is today. He was a volunteer fire fighter for twenty five years, served on the cemetery board and was an active lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. Howard was honored in 1997 as the Camas Citizen of the year.
Howard truly loved people.
He was an avid story teller and he cherished
spending time with his family and friends.
His hobbies included golf, boating, fishing and bowling.
Howard married Beverly Howard in 1951 and together they raised three children: Linda (Steve) Stoller, Karen Lewis, and Steve (Kris) Lorenz. He adored his grandchildren: Courtney Roberts, Collin Stoller, Shaun Lewis, Malia Lewis and Joseph Lorenz. Of special joy were his great-grandchildren: Aiden, Jack, Ben, Gabe, Delaney and Tatum.
Howard married Marilyn Powell in 1990 and they shared a special love for twenty three years. He is survived by her four children: John (Pam) Powell, Robin (Bruce) Fort, Deborah (Dan) Dodd and David (Betsy) Powell; and beloved grandchildren: Stewart, Elliot, Jenny, Madeleine, Evan, Mack, Jeremy and Jessie.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; his sister; Doris Carey; and his son-in-law, Craig Lewis.
A memorial service will be held on Thurs., July 24th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 824 NE 4th Ave., Camas, WA, reception to follow. Visitation will be at Straub's Funeral Home in Camas on Wed., July 23rd, 2014 from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Zion Lutheran Memorial Fund.
