GRAYCE "ARLENE" (YOCUM) HIGGINS
February 22, 1931 ~ December 9, 2012
"Arlene" as everyone knew her, was a strong and Godly woman. She was born in the Village of Stratton, Ohio and raised in nearby New Somerset. She graduated from Jefferson Union High School, Richmond, Ohio in 1948 and from Youngstown Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. Even as a young mother of 3, she worked as an R.N. (for 49 years) and was also a church pianist and organist and Sunday School teacher. Arlene is remembered as a woman that "everyone loved." She survived breast cancer in the '60's, numerous health challenges including heart surgery, but never complained. She is survived by her husband George, to whom she was married for 60 years; sons, David and Donald; and daughter, Diane; and nine grandchildren: Joshua, Nicholas, Andrew, Timothy, Eric, Ian, Sarah, Sean, and Lauren.
The beauty of her piano playing, her smile, love of games,
and wry sense of humor, will be greatly missed.
A public funeral service will be held Dec. 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

We are so very sorry that Arlene is not with us here, but we know she is with God. She encouraged me mightily in music and we had so many giggles together in bible study at her house! We will miss her so much and we are praying for her dear family...Our love, Tom, Sue and John Kaufer

I want Arlene's family to know how sorry I am to learn of her passing. I've only know her for a couple of years but in that time I have heard such stories about family. All filled with such love and pride. She was such a special lady and will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you now.
