EDWARD BROOKS Obituary

EDWARD "ED" BROOKS
December 17, 1919 ~ April 20, 2014

Ed Brooks, 94, of Ridgefield, WA, passed on Easter Sunday, on land he lived on for more than 80 years. Born to James and Ida May Brooks in Montana in 1919, the family settled in Ridgefield in 1927. Ed attended Baker School and Ridgefield High before finding work in Dutch Harbor, AK, joining the Carpenters Union in 1941. Ed applied his trade as a member of the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion "Seabees" from July 1942 until Dec. 7, 1945, serving in the South Pacific during WWII. Ed remained a carpenter his entire working life. His exceptional work ethic transitioned from the job site to raising cattle and harvesting hay, corn and walnuts.
Ed was an active volunteer for St. Mary of Guadalupe Catholic Church for many years.
When the job was done and the cows were fed, he enjoyed following sports on television and, in his younger years, dancing.
Ed is survived by sons, Gary, Raymond, Darrel and Chuck; daughter, Debbie; brother, Kenneth; longtime companion, Toby; as well as many grand and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by wives, Rose and Sophie; as well as his son, James.
Funeral services will be May 8, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Guadalupe Catholic Church located at 1520 N. 65th Avenue, Ridgefield, WA.

My deepest sympathy to the Brooks family. Ed was a great carpenter and I remember him well. Never had to worry when Ed was on the job. May he rest in peace. Remember, Rainbows are made by angels.

So sad to hear of Ed's passing. He was a great guy. I remember well how he liked to dance, a group of us got together regularly and danced the night away. God speed Ed.
