DEADRA "DEDE" DEANNE HAMMOND
December 5, 1957 ~ December 2, 2013
Dede slipped peacefully from us at the Ray Hickey Hospice House on December 2, 2013, after enduring a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
Dede was born December 5, 1957 in southern California to Lora Russ. Her adoptive father was Bill Masters whom she loved dearly.
She worked as a secretary with the Evergreen School District and loved her job and co-workers.
If you knew Dede, then you would have known what a special person she was. She was an advocate for cancer victims and survivors whether she was going through treatment or while in remission herself. Her passion was to help people. She loved people, and her pets, and enjoyed gardening, travel and fishing.
Her greatest joy and source of pride were her children, Dane and Taylor. Both at times might have debated that claim, as Dede was known as "Mama Bear". She was a great mom and loved them both beyond words.
Survivors include her husband, Greg Hammond; son, Dane Hammond (Sara); daughter, Taylor Hammond; loving sister, Lora Clemenson (Gale); and brother, Dana Smotherman (Marianne).
A memorial service date has not yet been determined.
Donations may be made to the Ray Hickey Hospice House or Community Hospice.
Please sign her guestbook at www.columbian.com/obits.

I am so glad we had a chance to re-connect on Facebook. I know how hard she fought this horrible disease. We will meet again in a better place. You will be missed. Prayers for peace go out to your family.

Dede I am so glad I got to know you. You blessed me by saying I was special to you, well, you were so special to me, too. You fought a great battle with so much courage! I hope you have all the Manager's Choice pan pizzas from Izzy's that you desire! You are still so much in my thoughts. Love, Betsy
