Dwayne Cole Obituary

DWAYNE DARRELL COLE
February 14, 1939 ~ February 18, 2014

Born in Montana, Dwayne was the youngest of four children for William Popham Cole and Stella Blake Cole. His sibling Madge Brown preceded him in death.

After high school in Spokane, WA, Dwayne enlisted in the US Navy as flight crew. Later he was hired by Air West as a commercial pilot until after the Vietnam War. Then he demonstrated and sold Beechcraft aircraft and subsequently sold hydraulic parts and spraying systems.

Meanwhile, Dwayne met Margaret "Peggy" Vermillion and they married in 1977. They had three children: Leanne Cole from Silicon Valley, CA; Darylynn Homer from England, and Walter William Cole from Covington, WA.

To be near his dying wife in 1995, he took a job as butcher at Fred Meyer's and was hired for a full time maintenance position. He worked there ten years before he retired. Peggy passed away in Dwayne's arms in 1995. Knowing the huge task of raising three children aged 15, 12, and 9, Dwayne asked the Lord to take away his arthritis. Instantly, he was healed.

Dwayne married Sally Sprouse in December of 1997, but she died in 2010.

After his second wife had passed, Dwayne reconnected with Nancy Meacham. They married after a six month courtship on December 4, 2010. One example of his unselfishness during their marriage was announcing that he would be the chief cook and dishwasher while Nancy finished writing her book, Grace, Miracles, and Chocolate. Their story is Chapter 46.

After a six month illness, Dwayne died quickly, with a smile on his face, from an apparent embolism. "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." Dwayne was buried on February 20, 2014 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR. A memorial service and luncheon followed.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Meacham-Cole, his three children and daughter-in-law, Sheila Cole. He is also survived by step-children Michelle Austin, Jennifer Meacham, Amy Vance, Ben Meacham, Heather Weber, Tim Meacham, Thomas Meacham and twelve grandchildren. In addition, his siblings Frances Beeson and Rodney Cole survive him as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Brother-in-laws Lloyd Brown and Harvey Beeson as well as Aunt Margaret "Denny" Cole and numerous cousins have also survived him.
