RICHARD W. DANSON
August 21, 1926 ~ November 25, 2013

Richard William Danson, 87, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013 in Weslaco, Texas from cancer. He was born August 21, 1926 to Elmer W. and Thelma E. Danson in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
He served in the US Navy during WWII stationed in The Philippines. Upon returning home, he worked on the family farm and in the iron ore mines in Hibbing, MN. He married Eileen Rasmussen Danson in 1947. They moved to Washington in 1953 and he dismantled Heights houses built during the war to house Kaiser Shipyard workers. He drove truck for Consolidated Freightways, Columbia Machine, Watts Bros. Potato Co. and was then self- employed for many years. He retired in 1985.
He enjoyed traveling and spent many winter months in AZ before moving to Weslaco, TX in 2011. He followed the NASCAR circuit and went to many races throughout the US. He also enjoyed fishing, reading and gardening.
Richard is survived by his loving companion, Carol Phillips, of Weslaco, TX: three daughters and their spouses; Judy and Darwin Moody, Carmen and Bruce Meyer of Camas, WA and Gail and Robert Posey of Vancouver, WA: seven grandchildren; Marc (Julie) Moody, Washougal, WA, Chad (Shannon) Moody, Manhattan, MT, Janelle (Kevin) Bergstrom, Camas, WA, Tracey Malone, Vancouver WA, Carrie Kor, Honolulu, HI, Shawna Philpot, of Battle Ground, WA and Brandon (Jen) Posey, Camas, WA: twelve great-grandchildren; Garrett, Jessica and Audrey Moody, Madison and Parker Moody, Faith and Jasmine Bergstrom, Abigail and Logan Malone, Kaden and Karter Philpot, and Emma Posey. He is also survived by two sisters; Dorothy Horton, Grand Rapids, MN and Anita Danson, Weslaco, TX; two brothers; Bob Danson, Weslaco, TX and Oren Danson, Grand Rapids, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Eileen in December 2005, great-granddaughter, Allison Moody, in December 1998 and three brothers; Arnold, Melvin and Wallace.
An Open House will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Danson Family Home in Vancouver.
