LARRY VERNON AST
February 9, 1940 ~ February 27, 2017
Larry passed onto Glory on Mon., Feb. 27th, 2017 after a long 15-year battle with COPD. He was born in Camas, WA on Feb. 9th, 1940 to Adolph and Dottie (Woodman) Ast. Growing up in Camas, Larry enjoyed roaming the country delivering newspapers, milking cows at Johnson Dairy and was active in Boy Scouts. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and cars.
After graduating from Camas High School in 1959, Larry joined the US Navy and served our country proud until 1963.
After returning home, Larry worked at the Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill and then went on to school at STI to train for future positions including Premier Auto, and the Datsun Motor Corporation.
Retiring as the Fleet Merchandise Manager for Nissan Motor in the early 1980's, Larry went on to open his own business Custom Auto/RV Interiors in the Vancouver, WA area. After 25 years of success and a decline in his health, he chose to retire for good and move down to the Pudding River in Salem, OR where he enjoyed country life in a tiny house.
Larry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dana L. (Stokstad) Ast; his sister, Donna Brookshire; daughter, Jennifer Osborne (Robert); sons, Larry J. Ast and David Ast; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Suzanne Hendrickson and Allyn Schultz (Brian). Larry was loved by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends as well as dear family friend, Bj Warner.
A Celebration of Larry's life will be held on March 7th at 6p.m. at the Camas Church of the Nazarene, 2204 NE Birch St., Camas, WA 98607 followed by a potluck. Please bring your favorite dish to share. Larry always said there wasn't anything better than good food, good friends and the Lord. Larry was an avid hot rod guy so if you have one, drive it.

Larry was one of the best. God must need an army, since he is taking the good ones too soon. Dana, you and Larry were always so welcoming and kind. You were so wonderful to me when Larry's cousin John passed. I will miss him and will be there to share in his life's celebration tonight. Sending condolences and love to you and your family.

We first got to know Larry and Dana at Camas Nazarene Church, a long time ago. Then we got a 5th wheel RV and found they had the business in Hazel Dell redoing interiors of autos and RVs. Larry did excellent work. Then we lost track of Larry and Dana until FB came along and we see posting by them frequently. What a shock to learn of Larry's passing at such a young age - the 70s decade is still young to me! We look forward to celebrating life with Larry's family at Camas Nazarene tomorrow evening. Larry is with Jesus now!

To my beautiful sister and niece,
What a blessing it has been to have had Larry in my life for the last 48 years.
The depth of your lose is immeasurable but so was his love for you. Take comfort in your memories and in knowing you will see him again.
I love you,

Larry was such a wonderful person. It is a great comfort to know that they that trust in the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint...Isaiah 40:31
You will be missed by many.

No words can express how sad I am. Larry was like a Grandpa to me, he always was encouraging, uplifting, loving and gave the best hugs ever! I know Larry is in a better place, his Heavenly home with the good Lord, but he sure will be extremely missed here. ❤

I send love and thoughts your way. The first time I met him, he had the biggest smile on his face and his arms were wide open for a greeting hug, and he said "Hi! I'm grandpa!" and I hugged him and said "Hi grandpa!" and it made me feel already so loved and welcomed. He was so full of love. He will be greatly missed.

Larry's passing is a huge loss. Larry and I worked together in the NW with Datsun in the 80's. He was a hard worker and oh, so dependable. Had a passion for whatever he did. A fun, energetic gentleman. Thank you, Larry, for teaching me so much about the car business. To the family and friends left behind.....May precious memories flood your soul of all of the good times you enjoyed with Larry.
