FRANCINE E. OEKERMAN
August 11, 1931 ~ February 26, 2014
Francine Oekerman, 82, passed away in Vancouver, WA. She was born in Logan, UT to Harold and Erma England.
While in the Naval Reserves as a WAVE, Francine met reservist Gilbert Oekerman. They were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Portland, OR on June 6, 1953.
In the late 80's, she and Gilbert lived in New Zealand where she learned to spin yarn. When they returned to Vancouver, she opened Spin Away Your Troubles with Francine shop, where she sold yarn and taught spinning classes and also enjoyed demonstrating spinning at the Clark County Fair. In retirement, she enjoyed quilt "Shop Hops" with her daughters and her quilting group.
Francine is survived by her husband of 60 years, Gilbert; daughters, Kay Kennedy and Rosalie Oekerman; sons, Frank (Janet Mize) and Steve (Karen) Oekerman; grandchildren, Amanda and Shane Kennedy, Katelyn Oekerman; and sister, Susan Stewart. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Richard England.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thurs., March 6, 2014, Skyline Memorial Gardens, Portland, OR.

We worked with Francine in Real Estate and enjoyed her stories. She loved to tell her of her life in New Zealand and of her family. May she rest in peace. Our sympathy to all.

I remember Francine when I was young. She and Gil were both fabulous role models for me growing up. A wonderful, caring person!
