Sally Stephins Obituary

SALLY "SUSIE" CRILLMAN
(DANNER) STEPHINS
February 16, 1941 ~ April 1, 2013

Sally "Susie" Crillman Stephins was born in Vancouver, WA, Feb. 16, 1941 to Wilbert and Sara Danner. She passed peacefully in her home, April 1, 2013. Susie attended Lincoln Elementary, Shumway Junior High, and graduated Vancouver High, class of 1959, and from the University of Washington in 1963. She was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. Susie met and married her husband of 49 years, Raymond W. Stephins, June 29, 1963. They returned to Vancouver in 1966 and lovingly raised four children. She was an active parent in the Vancouver Schools, receiving two Golden Acorns. She organized and coordinated fundraisers and events. She was involved in the First Presbyterian Church, Concordia, PEO and Friends of the Carpenter, which allowed her to build relationships across the community. Susie worked for the Chamber of Commerce and retired as "Teacher Susie" from Noah's Ark Preschool in 2006 after 17 years of service.
A coordinator extraordinaire, Susie will be dearly missed by her friends at the events, gatherings, and daily conversations she made happen.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond W. Stephins; and sister, Linda Frazier (Robert). Her legacy continues on in the hearts of her children, Anne Allan (Tom), William Stephins (Alexis), Molly Bonthuis (Paul), and Betsy Seidel (Wade). She was a devoted grandmother to eight grandchildren.
A memorial service to be held Sat., April 6, 2013 at 2 o' clock in the afternoon at The First Presbyterian Church, Vancouver, WA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to The Friends of The Carpenter or "FPC Kitchen Remodel".

for Sally Stephins

Not sure what to say?

Sally was my grandma. We will miss her deeply. She always picked me up after school when I was in preschool and died when I was 6. One day when I was in 5th grade we learned about the Holocaust. That day was her birthday, February 16, and my mom Betsy Seidel and my grandpa Ray Stephins were at lunch to celebrate her.

Ann & Family,

Our thoughts are with you & your family for the loss of your mom. She was one special lady. Although we haven't seen her in years, she touched our family in many ways. From Trina's Blue Bird meetings, to Terry working at Throckmorton's Pizza, and giving Connie a tip & then putting in a good word for her at Eisnhower where she's been teaching for 21 years. We are very greatful to have known her and will remember her for always getting involved and looking out for others in such a caring & thoughtful way.

So sorry to hear of Susie's passing. Fond memories of her hunting Ann and I down during high school. She was always filling us in with the latest on who was doing what. Even before our 20 year reunion I was sure she knew more about all of our classmates than we ever imagined! She will be greatly missed by many - sending best wishes for the entire family.

Dear Ray and Family,
What a shock to learn of your loss of Susie! God gifted her in so many areas and I treasure the many times we had together in PEO and talking about our days at the UW. But now He has called her home. She has a new ministry ! Am thankful you have such a close knit family. Am keeping all of you in my prayers.
Love and hugs,

Gently as the evening sun says good night to the trees, quietly as grasses bend before a rushing breeze...surely as the ocean waves advance to touch the shore, silently as the autumn leaves fall to the forest floor...so may the passing of your days heal the loneliness and sorrow that you are feeling this day at the death of Susie. We are sure she has had a positive effect on those whose lives she has touched! Helen and Del Tallman (Yuma, AZ.)

Oh Susie, how very much you will be missed. Your love for Ray, your children and grandchildren was unending. Who will I call when I have a problem? I always looked forward to checking my email each morning and finding a note from you.. Or calling you and having you say " Can I call you right back?'
I will always love and miss you.

Ray and family, We are so saddened by the news of Susie's passing. Like so many others, we enjoyed Susie's energy, enthusiasm, humor, and caring for others. We have very fond memories when you all lived across the street from the Finks. Lots of laughter and joy with Dona and Susie and Helen and the guys trying to keep up. Thanks for throwing us our wedding shower in1974. May God comfort and bless you and your family and embrace Susie as He took her home. Much love to all. Chris and Terry Fink

Our dear Teacher Susie, first teaching my children, then teaching me what unconditional love in a friendship is, where strength grows, where forgiveness blossoms. Now we must learn to live without you by our side. I know you will watch over us always, sending us guidance and comfort, you remain in our hearts forever. My dear friend, I will treasure our time together every day of my life, and thank God for the gift of your friendship. What a glorious day it will be when we meet again.

Love you so much...

What a joy it was to work together at Noah's Ark Preschool. Susie was the one know what was needed and who to go to to get the job done. She loved her children and grandchildren so much, she would often share funny stories about them on our lunch breaks at Noah's Ark Preschool. She was right, being a grandma is the best! I will miss you Susie! My prayers are with your precious loved ones. Love, Cheryl Johnson

I will always remember the story that Ray shared with me. They were all leaving Orcas and Sussie said, "Wait a minute, I'll be right back." She missed the ferry, which caused a big delay in plans.I'll miss her "Wait a minute, I'll call you right back. Or do this for me, I've got an errand to run, I'll be right back."She had so many good ideas for everything and was a true friend. In Christ, Margit Johnson
