May 13, 1949 ~ February 23, 2014

Mary Strom, 64, of Vancouver, WA, passed away Feb. 23, 2014 at Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center in Clackamas, OR following an 8-year battle with recurring breast cancer. She was born in Portland, OR on May 13, 1949 to William and Edna Hansen and graduated from Cle Elum, WA high school.
Mary earned a Business degree at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA. She worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for several years after college.
She married Richard D. Strom in Vancouver, WA on Oct. 20, 1973 and enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom and homemaker.
Mary loved rubber stamping. She liked nothing better than getting together with her stamping buddies, Lynn, Pat, and Julie to make greeting cards. She liked to play the slot machines at casinos, walking on the Salmon Creek Trail, and loved her many trips through Yellowstone Park and Wyoming, always looking for wildlife. She could never pass a souvenir shop without stopping. Mary collected shot glasses from everywhere she went and has hundreds of them. She also collected small figurines of all kinds of wildlife. She loved old Westerns on TV, especially Gunsmoke, talking about the wonderful Alaskan Cruise given to us as a Christmas present by our son, Kevin and daughter-in-law, Summer, but what she loved more than anything, was taking care of her granddaughter, Haylie, who was an inspiration to her to keep fighting the cancer that was trying to overtake her.
Special thanks to her Kaiser Permanente oncologist, Dr. Lackowski, who helped give her many happy years. Also, many thanks to all the oncology nurses at Kaiser Interstate and Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center for all their help and loving care.
Everywhere I go or anything I do, I will always miss you and be thinking about you because I know you would be with me if you could. Once all dreams were worth dreaming because I was with you. Rest in peace my sweetheart. We will be together again someday. Love, Richard
Mary is survived by her husband of 40 years, Richard, at home; son, Kevin (Summer); precious granddaughter, Haylie Eileen Strom; brother, Ron Hansen (Linda); niece, Emma Hansen; nephews, Ronnie, Marty and Warren Hansen, all of Vancouver, WA; several cousins; and many wonderful friends.
