Harold L. LeClaire, of Vancouver, WA, concluded his life on Fri., June 20, 2014, at the age of 82. He was born in Penn Yan, NY on Feb. 20, 1932. Hal spent his youth on a chicken farm in Canandaigua, NY, where he graduated high school and played minor league baseball.
At the age of twenty, Hal voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army and served as an infantryman in the Korean War, after which he served a tour as a Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C. He then joined the Air Force, and throughout his career was stationed in Germany, England, Turkey, and Vietnam (where he served two tours).
Hal retired in 1971 to the Pacific Northwest, where he spent forty years owning and operating several small businesses.
His life, though often fraught with danger, was flavored by travel and blessed with love. Hal never feared the unknown, always seeking new and difficult challenges to conquer, and he passes on to his next great adventure with the love and admiration of his family and countless friends the world over.
Hal is survived by brothers, Jim, Max, Dennis, Dean; sisters, Aida and Gloria; children, Michael and Mark, Shelly and Jamie; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grand- children.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis D. LeClaire; and three brothers.
A viewing will be held at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Sun., June 29, 12p.m. to 9p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR on Mon., June 30, at 12p.m.
