George Francis Christensen, Jr., 92, passed away in White Salmon, Washington on April 25, 2014. He was born July 28, 1921 in the family home at 466 Roselawn Avenue in Stevenson, Washington to Minnie (Meyer) and George Christensen, Sr.
George graduated from Stevenson High School in 1939 and from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington in 1943.
He served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1945.
Mr. Christensen moved to Spokane and worked for Seattle First National Bank Spokane Branch then returned to Stevenson to help modernize the Bank of Stevenson. He became president of that bank in 1954 and retired in 1985.
In 1947, George married Geraldine Burk and the couple had five children. He married Ann Moore in 1968 and she brought two children to the family.
George loved water skiing, snow skiing and hosting barbecues. He was a Master Gardener and a member of the Whitman Alumni Association, the Eagles, Masonic and Elks Lodges, the Lions Club, the Republican party and the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Christensen is survived by his children: Sally Christensen of Charlotte, NC, Patty Linde of Reno, NV, Mary Christensen of Stevenson, Margaret Christensen Engel of Portland, OR, Matthew Dean Moore of Berlin, Germany, Deborah Moore of Salem, OR and Georgine Christensen of Vancouver, WA; sister, Cerita Wilson of Bethesda, MD; companion, Bev Kilpatrick, of Stevenson; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brother, Richard Carrol "RC" Christensen; and wife, Ann Christensen, who passed away on October 12, 2006.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 6 at the United Methodist Church in Stevenson followed by burial with military honors at the Stevenson Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VFW, Salvation Army or Rock Cove Assisted Living.
